I tried LOS 21 on my FP4 and want to return to the StockOS. LOS 21 based on Android 14 and the lastest security patch from Dec. 1th is installed. Due to the documentation a revert including a downgrade is possible. Did anyone tried this ? I’m afraid to brick my brand new phone.
For starters, this guy tried it…
and this one (FP5 though)…
… you may get in contact directly with them and ask whether they succeeded.
It’s not the first time I’m playing with Custom-ROMs and reverts, but I’m a little concerned about the rollback protection:
If you try installing a version of /e/OS based on a security patch that is older than the one on your device, you will brick your device. Click on

I haven’t tried this yet but the details (click drop-down “Details”) on that we page mention that the bricking happens once you relocked the bootloader if the security patch is rolled back. For that reason, don’t relock the bootloader until you know for certain you will upgrade to another patch with high security.
I’ll also let more experienced users chime in.
For that reason I obviously have to want until a stock OS will be released containing the Dec. 2024 patch.
- Works regardless of what version you are on. Can be used to downgrade to an older version (for example: Android 13 → Android 11).
is a little misleading.
Just so it’s clear to others, you don’t need to wait to switch as far as I understand. You just need to wait to lock your bootloader. You’d just go a month or so with that android warning screen.
While that’s true, locking the bootloader will wipe the phone so don’t get too comfortable with that installation.
Would be nice if LOS could switch to following Fairphone’s lagging SPL (only update the patch level when a new version gets released), like the other custom ROMs are, so people don’t end up in that situation
