Returning a fairphone 5 possible?

Dear all,

i bought a Fairphone 5 last year because i liked the mission. Repairable, long term support. So i bought one. I was willing not to have top performance, because is dont need it.

Sadly, to say the least, it has been the worst smartphone experience i ever had and thinking i coudld use that to the 2030ies+ gives me nightmares.

My first issue i described in this topic

where no solution could be found. since then the experience has been even more sad.

After a few days the phone does not recognize any charger and needs to be restarted, then it works.

It is impossible to work with, any application i minimize is immediately killed by the OS and needs to be restarted. I actually failed to install an app where i needed to switch to emails to copy the code send via mail, because when i switched back the entire process was killed and had to be restarted. It was impossible without a f****** secondary pc……

The one game i played….impossible to play, anytime i minimize or the screen goes off….hello login procedure.

I tried anything, even going into the dev options of android to tell the OS not to kill everything allways. I had no success.

Then Android Auto. Constant disconnects and connection problems, while the Samsung A54 from my wife has no problems at all in the car.

Spotify: As soon as i open any other application Spotify goes off……about 50% chance on that. So if iam not driving but my phone is connected to the car i cant do anything with it or it will stop the music or completely disconnects.

I am writing this here because the last point is: The support is MISERALBE. neither my contact for the first issue nor anything else ever got an answer.

I tried making it work for a year now and for me a smartphone needs to be one thing: Stable. I dont care about speed or fancy features. And the fairphone 5 fails at this to an extend which i thought not possible in these days.

So whats the possibilties here? Is there a return policy after the amount of time i already tried to make it work or is the money just gone and i by something else?

Hello

Sorry to hear about your experience.

There are several topics on the issue you mentioned (the support, killing the apps, android auto, etc), so I will not be commenting on that.

I guess you can resell the phone using the forum market category.

This doesn’t sound right. Me and my wife have been using FP5 for over 2 years now. Only time I’ve received the cooling down message is when the phone has been laying in the sun in the summer.

Have you ever tried resetting the phone to factory default?

Yes didnt work out. and it turns out its only in google maps, nowhere else.

It sounds to me as if Google Maps is not using hardware acceleration.
I’ve had this issue with OSMand, where the app crash and switch to CPU rendering.

There is no setting for this in Google Maps, as I know of, so it’s a very strange behavior.
