oo good find! that wasn’t the one i saw a couple of weeks ago (and lost the link… meh) but thank you! i’ll get in touch with them and see how they are getting on.
btw, as someone who has developed long-term modular standards, i know how unnnnbellieeevably challenging and how incredibly important it is to get them right. so… what i’m saying is: be patient with puzzlephone, ok? if they truly plan to create a long-term modular standard, would you like to have a phone that is so badly-designed that the first one you buy will be the last one that anyone buys, or would you prefer to wait and have a design that lasts and you will still be mixing and matching 10-year-old parts with new ones, in 10 years time?
You know what’s funny - I actually think the FP2 fits more closely to Phoneblok’s original concept than the Project Ara phone, in that it involves modules having to be mechanically removed and attached (with pins/screws) as opposed to the more risky “hot-swapping” electromagnet method.
Google was just overstrain with Motorola.
For me it was an Ara-gate. With Google moto x should have been a nexus device etc.
But they were just overstrain, that’s why project ara never had come.
My fear is, if FP thinks other companies would do modules for them, and FP don’t need to do some by them self, we will have an ara- gate.
Project Ara was the same other companies should do chips for them.
OK it’s an other story, but we also need to think also about that, if we want to keep our phones for +3 years, that’s why i told them, they should keep one producing modules, may be 2017 a new camera etc.
Our part ist to showing our friends why Fairphone, i love iPhone or my moto x.
If i wouldn’t know Fairphone enought, i would choose to buy an expencive phone, why? Well if i spend €500 i would keep them longer, because it was expencive. ;-p
I unterstand we need cheep phones, this days, but do we need them here in Europe? And need they be cheep because of unfairness?
I don’t think so, if i would run FP, i would sell FP2 for € 200 in the countries with poor people, but then the ritch countries need to support it so we may would pay 600€.
