Problem with FP3 /e/OS and dog GPS tracker

I have a little problem with the app of my dog’s GPS tracker.

Everything was alright for about 1,5 years while I had the lineage OS.

Now we switched to e/OS which is great. But there is a strange situation with the GPS App: I can still see the position of my dog (and myself / my FP3) on the app and after a walk I see the whole route as a line in the app. But what I don’t get anymore is the walk itself as it happens, as a line, the display of it.

this is the tracker https://tracker.fressnapf.de/

Any suggestions what I would have to change in the settings perhaps?

Thanks for help!

Have you tried seeing if some permissions have been disabled. Some apps just don’t function properly without that.

Have you tried to re-pair you trackers. This sometimes can solve that. My mothers watch comes to mind for this problem.

Have you also tried just turning Bluetooth off and on again. What comes to mind here is Pokémon go + seems to not connect at times requiring that fix.

For precise location permission might need to be enabled.

Have you tried clearing the cash for the app in question. That might be the issue. However unlikely it is.

Hope some of these troubleshooting steps fix your problem. Some of these comes from experience i had with trackers in general. Pokémon go + is a sleep tracker and the same for the watch.

In addition to what @Digimon wrote:
You might try out to disable all “advanced privacy” settings or you might also ask on the /e/forum.

@Digimon Thank you for your ideas. (I have to say that I had contacted the support of the GPS Dog Tracker already and tried out a lot that they suggested, e.g. uninstalling the App and reinstalling it (did this several times), also resetting the GPS tracker and so on.
your other suggestions:
re-pairing: yes, I did that after re-installing the app.
turning BT off and on: I do this all the time, as I only activate it when I need it. But I don’t think I need BT for the gps tracker.
precise location = enabled
clearing the cash for the app - sorry, no idea how to do that
seeing if some permissions disabled - I give permission for whatever ,when app is in use’, wouldn’t that be enough?

thank you again

sorry, I’m lost. do you mean generally on my FP3?

Yes, it’s an /e/OS feature. You’ll find the configuration at settings->advanced privacy

It can look e.g. like here:

But as a test I’d recommend to disable all functions.

Settings->apps->fressnapf tracker->storage and cache->clear cache

At least to test if it helps I’d go to settings->apps->fressnapf tracker->permissions and would check if all are in the section “allowed”.
And in settings->apps->fressnapf tracker->app battery usage I’d enable “allow background usage” (at least as a test).

As for watches it’s a requirement if your watch doesn’t have cellular data enabled. Im speaking of a low energy watch witch is made by iTech Wearables
That is how the watch tracks the data is sending some compute functions to the phone making Bluetooth Mandatory. This can cause problems if you have a lot of paired devices trying to communicate at once requiring turning bluetooth off and on again. This would refresh the connection to the tracker in question. I don’t know if yours has that. But it helps knowing what capabilities your device has. My Google Watch 2 is WiFi, Bluetooth, and Esim for cellular. Since myself doesn’t want to pay for fitbit pro membership. I have no reason to do that for esim. It instead uses WiFi to gps track along with the Bluetooth connection for that one. Its a less precise way to do so but works nonetheless. Just for your information for future reference.

@Volker ok, i have followed all your suggestions now and have enabled everything (feels weird, dog gps can now access audio and camera…)
Will now go for a walk with superdog, let’s see what happens!
@Digimon and I emptied the cash again

See you later!

OK, wish you good luck! :+1:

unfortunately no change.
I’ll reestablish the settings.

Just to clarify: in the app / tracking mode I can see the dog’s tracker on the app map as well as my FP, the dog’s tracker has a sort of blinking circle around it. But I don’t see the lines / done walk. When - during a walk - I click “activities” then I see the map with the whole distance covered as ,lines’. But I don’t get the lines in the tracking subpage.

This is better than nothing of course, but it really helped in the past when the dog went on her on research tour to see the route as well as the current position.

EDIT: no, unfortunatley the FP-position is not dsplayed any more in the app at the moment.

The different display doesn’t really make sense and it was never a problem with lineage.

Really grateful for any new suggestions (I’ve tried the whole disconnection / pairing again, deleting and reinstalling app more than once).
Thank you!

@Volker kleine Info: der Fressnapf support war echt nett, die haben sogar den Tracker umgetauscht nach 1,5 Jahren weil sie das Problem nicht lösen konnten. Leider lag es nicht am Gerät.

Update: I bet you all want to know how it’s going!
well, unfortunately I still don’t see the FP-position in the tracking app any more when we’re on a walk,
but
I see the icon briefly the first time I open the app. Then it disappears and never returns.
Also, still no tracing of my dog’s walk, just the dog paw icon showing the position, but not the route. However, you can see the route in “activities”.

I am a bit frustrated because now it is worse than before.
would have thought that deinstalling the app and reinstalling it would set everything back to default. so why no FP positon?
(and this way it’s really useless when we’re walking in the countryside / a field with no landmarks like streetnames or bars etc. like in the city. If I had our two positions I’d have a chance of finding her when she’s off sniffing rabbit trails…

sad weekend-greetings!

PS please help me

Could it be that the app accesses the maps-api (of Android) and expects google maps but only gets a MicroG replacement? I remember having such problems in the past with MicroG but I don’t know if this is still a thing in todays Android. This might cause issues with the app. Just an uneducated guess, pls correct me if I’m wrong.
