What makes you think longevity is not important for Google in the Pixel line ? The Pixel 6 released in 2021 and is still supported and will be for one more year. And it receives monthly security updates every month
Iām getting quite confident that on June 25 a new device will be announced
Nice! I wasnāt 100% yet, because the event doesnāt mention the FP6 yet. Just the launch of a new device and some keynotes from the CEO and Google about AI and security. But the hints are there. Nice to get some more certainty. Iāll share some pics of the event when Iām there (if allowed).
More details have been leaked on Fairphone 6, incl. official marketing photos (German language):
Summarized:
The Fairphone 6, set to be unveiled on June 25, 2025, introduces a modular design that allows users to replace components such as the camera, display, and battery. It will launch in āHorizon Black,ā āCloud White,ā and āForest Greenā colors, with an initial configuration of 8 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage, priced at 549.99 euros. A notable feature of the Fairphone 6 is its two-part back cover, which not only allows for color customization of the top and bottom sections but also facilitates easy access for component replacement and the attachment of accessories like a cardholder, lanyard, and ring holder for improved grip.
From what I can figure out, the basic shape seems to swing back to my personal preference: Rounded corners, but no rounded edges ā like on my trusty Fairphone 3 Having said that, I still hope I can stick with the latter for a long time to come.
Thanks, it looks lovely
I wonder about the pricing strategy, would FP5 get much cheaper than?
Notable for me is the speculation about the frame being plastic (while we see more and more sudden death for the FP3ā¦)
Hope it will be possible to buy it on july
Regarding the RAM size: Maybe there are plenty of FP users who use custom ROMs or use very small apps. That would lead to two groups of users: One group is using very few RAM and the other uses the normal play store apps that might need much RAM.
Is there anything showing the sudden deaths are due to the plastic frame ? This is the first time I read this.
This is not really on-topic, but I might have something about that:
This and a german repair shop states the same
So yes its the frame and we will see if the design change for the position of the core module is kept as in the FP5 and if this reduces the mechanical stress to the solder joints. All given the speculation about the frame being plastic is correct. We will know in 19 days I guess.
The latest available security update for my FP5 is March. The Android version is at least one version behind. Important features like 3rd-party passkey support are still missing. And Iām not even talking about the lacking product support. Honestly, Iām disappointed that FP is rushing out a new model instead of fixing these issues. And I donāt see how this aligns with the companyās philosophy.
Thats a broken record I would like to shorten: no new model, no sufficient sells, no money to keep older devices running. Many people needing a new phone now would not buy a 2 year old mid range model
Just read an article about new Fairphone 6 launching on 25th of June. Any official news from fairphone?
At the end of each topic the forum has a Top replies / Show all switch, which spares you from reading 50+ posts in this case to easily get the answer .
(Anything official would surely be among the top replies.)
Thank you, I jus read that there was some news about it.
This is the source article I read, which seem legit from my pov: Fairphone 6 wordt 25 juni 2025 aangekondigd - NieuweMobiel.NL
German article:
Here from Android Authority : Fairphone 6's modular design could let you customize, not just repair
