Possible release date for the Fairphone 6?

I am about to switch from Apple to Fairphone for political reasons which can be discussed else where. I have seen the specification of the Fairphone 6 and it would clearly meet my needs. The over heating issue that the previous model does put me off it. Despite much searching I couldn’t find an estimated lunch date for the new model. What is the consensus of opinion?

Are you sure you saw actual specs? FP6 hasn’t been announced yet (or has it just now?). What you can find are mostly wishes and speculations…

It is not announced yet. Probably going to be released in August or September

Thanks Furdiburd. Not too long.

you have seen the spec where exactly? dont just make up rumours, but post the direct link to the fake news and rumours for us to judge ourselves. everything else is just fantasy and fud if you cant back up your claims.

enjoy lunch time

What overheating issue? Perhaps I’m missing something and everyone else knows, but I’ve been using my FP5 for more than a year, and it doesn’t overheat. In general I would still recommend it for the current price, although of course it will have less longevity than if you bought it at launch.

Somebody had an FP5 repeatedly overheating few minutes into a Zoom call. It resulted in instant poweroff.

No problem in my Zoom

Ah, I don’t use Zoom, thanks for the context!

I am thrilled about the new release. Q3 feels far away. I hope Fairphone has listened to the wishes of the community, including my personal hope for an air pressure sensor. It might sound unusual, but such a sensor is incredibly useful for alpine sports and OSM mapping.

As of now there is no release. Everything so far is speculation.

I hope.
Need a second phone and would like to buy again a fairphone. But the fairphone 3 burned me. Bought it and 2 weeks later fairphone 4 was released.
So i look for a new release, until then i will not buy “again” a 2 year old phone

Hello,
I guess we would need to wait till June/July for something more than speculation, and at least till September/October for a new release (that’s my reasonable guess). Would you need a phone before that?

I can wait a couple months. My Feedback is only. If fairphone would say they dont release a new phone unil like 2027, i would buy today the fp5. But i will not buy in march 2025 a phone which was release 2023, cause i was burned 2021 already when i bought the 3 and a couple of days later the fp4 was announced.

My learning from this is i only will buy a fairphone on release

I wouldn’t swap my Fairphone 3 from 2019 for a Fairphone 4 even if money would be offered to me on top of it.

In hindsight the Fairphone 4 looks to me like an interim placeholder until the release of the “real deal” Fairphone 5.
Not that anybody could know in 2021, of course, so invoking hindsight must turn out a bit harsh on the Fairphone 4, but it is what it is for me, for my needs the Fairphone 3 is the better overall package :person_shrugging: .

I dont want to swap my fp3. I need an additional phone. I like the FP3 and that i still get updates for it. On the other hand i wouldnt buy an other Fairphone.
But why is it so hard to understand that i dont want to buy a 2 year old phone, when maybe there is the next one around? Especially when this already happend to me 4 years ago

I have had a look at the 2023 campaigns where they regularly offered promotions and discounts for FP4, but FP5 was not annnounced before August.

For August launch, there were ‘leaked’ news two months earlier.

I agree that the vibe is full of expectations and I myself expect them to launch something soon, just am not so sure it will be a new phone (or not just yet).

In other words, I would expect;-) to have some more substantial info going around at least eight weeks before the official launch.

Hi I have just joined the community and am looking forward to the release of Fairphone 6 for exactly the same reason. We are divesting ourselves of all American based companies and products. I’m sure we are not alone in this.
I chose the Fairphone company for several reasons. But the top 2 are its ethics and its repair ability. I could go on but I’m sure that everyone else know of the long list of positive reasons to own a Fairphone e/Os.

a Youtuber TechAltar has recently made a video about his experience using EU tech for a month, with the phone of choice being the Fairphone 5. apparently Fairphone’s Youtube account commented under his video with a little teaser message:

I’m surprised there is no announcement or invite to the trusted members yet. With the FP5 there was one. But I did get an invite through the account manager of Fairphone since I’m one of the people who helped get the Fairphone partnership going at my workplace.

Anyway, there will be an event on June 25th. No details about it though. Just some vague stuff about “you have never seen us like this”. There is no reason to think it’s about the FP6. But just fueling the hype here.
