Phone photos appear as thumbnails as usual however have stopped appearing in Gallery. Checked my phone memory there seems to be space. I have also deleted several unwanted pictures from the gallery that hasn’t sorted the problem.
You mean they appear as a thumbnail in the lower right corner of the camera app, after you’ve taken a picture?
Clear the cache of the gallery app (go to Settings > Apps > All > Gallery and select “Clear Cache”). Does that solve the issue?

Yes that’s correct, about pic’s appearing in the bottom right hand corner.
I have done “Clear Cache” that seems to have worked thank you.
