Hi,
lately I found that my phone did not have a connection to the provider, not for phone, not for data. I talked to the provider and the suggested to turn on flight mode, restart the phone and turn the flight mode off. That worked, my phone connected back, phone- and data-services. Never found the reason for that.
Last week I went to the Netherlands and after crossing the border I didn’t have an connection anymore, neither phone nor data. I went into the settings and selected T-Mobile as service provider and it connected immediately. The “Connect to provider automatically” button was active so. On the way home, same game. After crossing the border, I used trick one (Flightmode, restart) and it connected again fine. This is annoying ;-). This happened under Android 13 and 14.
Any ideas what this could be and why the automatic selection of the provider does not work?
Thank you
I don’t have a solution to your issue but can at least state that this is not a general issue with the phone. My phone (together with me) crossed the border between D and CZ 6 times yesterday and apart from some bad network coverage here and there I had a seamless connection.
Fun fact: When I was down at the cliffs in the northwest of the Danish island Bornholm I received a roaming message from a Swedish network (closest Swedish mainland about 40 km away). The same happened on the ferry back to Germany again. So automatic network selection in general seems to work well.
Hi @Uwe4711,
I have the same problem ever since Android14 update. It used to work fine for Androdi13, and now the toggle “Automatically select network” is always on, but the automatic selection doesn’t work. I always need to choose the network manually. I am not sure why @Martin_Anderseck doesn’t experience this, but I can assure you are not alone, see e.g. Automatic network selection !
Could you also write to Fairphone support? This will help us to get more visibility for this issue.
not sure if this is the same problem, i have problems as well.
after crossing the border the phone doesn’t pick up network. restarting don’t work.
selecting network manually helps. but automatic selection is always on i can’t switch of.
even after a day in the country the network disconnect randomly and the phone start beeping selection network not available. ignoring.
yes beeping. and don’t stop until i change network manually.
only way to solve is to select the right network again manually, take some time to find out which network is the right one.
this problem just started some days ago. didn’t notice before.
i will try the trick of restarting in flight mode next time. let’s see what happens.
There’s always some dependency on the network provider. My FP5 is at home in the German O2/Telefonica network. What I described in my post about Danish/Swedish networks was still on Android 13, but I just checked my messages and on the day that I cycled between D and CZ I was on Android 14 already and I definitely have roaming messages although I didn’t trigger a network selection manually.
