Phone keeps barring outgoing calls

I have a Dutch T-mobile prepaid card that I use in Sweden. When I try to call with it, it says ‘outgoing calls barred’. If I try to put call barring off (in settings) it says ‘unexpected response from network’. I have more than enough phone credit.
I have called T-mobile about this and they say the problem must be in the phone settings, because the sim card should work abroad (and has worked previously). Has anyone else had this problem?

Try booking into a different network. Maybe the roaming network you are connected with doesn’t allow calling with your sim card.

Thanks for your response! Sorry, how do I book into a different network?

Settings -> More -> Mobile networks -> Mobile operator or something like that since I translated that from my German Android.
If that doesn’t help I can advise you to search the internet for “outgoing calls barred”. That returns quite a lot, so I don’t think that you are facing a Fairphone specific issue. But if you find a solution please let us know here

The error message doesn’t sound like a Fairphone problem, rather a network issue from the selected roaming operator or a setting of your dutch T-Mobile operator. Typically prepaid cards come with a barring for everything and are selectively unbarred. If nothing works then maybe for the given period abroad you may be temporarily set up as a credit subscriber, then the barring should be dropped and you should be able to call.

Hi all, thanks for thinking along. The problem is indeed with Swedish networks, who appear to be unfriendly to Dutch prepaid simcards. (cf. https://www.t-mobile.nl/mobiel-abonnement/buitenland/dekking-buitenland)

However, I registered my number on my phone under this sim, and that seems to be enabling outgoing calls (for reasons I cannot understand).
In any case, it is solved!
