Hello everyone, I just purchased my first Fairphone (5) a week ago. Yesterday, I went to a concert and realized that the audio quality in the video recorded at the concert is completely distorted. I’ve read that this has something to do with the standard audio filter, and a suggested solution is to download OpenCamera and set the “audio source” to “unprocessed.” I still need to test this in a loud environment, BUT now, when I record video with OpenCamera, the quality is extremely low, and my videos are all blurry. I have selected standard video options (Full HD, 60 fps), but there is a long list of settings I am not familiar with, and I think it has something to do with those. Has anyone already tested these settings and found a combination for clear Full HD, 60 fps video on OpenCamera? Thanks a lot!
Hello, I have been using the Google Camera app specifically because OpenCamera has been producing very low-resolution videos out of the box which has been frustrating, and I hadn’t had time to track it down until today.
But today I calculated the bitrate for my (sadly unwatchable) hour-and-a-half video of the sunrise I just took on “Default”, and it came out to just under 500kbps, which is very inadequate for an HD video.
Setting the bitrate manually did fix the problem. So, now my question is, what is causing the is the “Default” bitrate on the FP5 to come out to 500kbps, and is this something that Fairphone can fix in their Android distribution? I haven’t noticed this issue on other phones I’ve used OpenCamera, but I could have just not noticed before. If not, I guess I’ll have to take this to the OpenCamera devs?
Anyway, short version @leowiz is try changing the “Video bitrate (approx)” under Video Settings to something reasonable for HD Video - a quick search indicates that something like 20Mbps is more appropriate for Full HD at 60fps.
Update: I just read the OpenCamera manual some more and switching the “Camera API” setting to “Camera2 API” also seems to resolve this and produce more sensible defaults, which seems like the better way (take note @leowiz)
This implies that the issue is in the Original Camera API in the Android distribution, which seems like it may be within the scope of Fairphone’s distribution to be able to fix for apps still using the original API (like OpenCamera by default), but I don’t know enough to say for sure.
Thank you for the tip! I manage to solve and have clear videos, but I also found out that the Dolby On app shoudl work to take videos without the distorted sound (for example at venues or loud scenes) . Still have to test it though. Thanks again
