[OFFICIAL] LineageOS 23 for The Fairphone (Gen. 6)

Hey everyone!

On this day exactly one year ago, the Fairphone (Gen. 6) was released, and today we are happy to announce that the device has officially joined the LineageOS roster!

A lot has happened in the past year, and who knows what we’ll see at T plus one month!
We’ve had a long run of testing with unofficial builds, starting with the first public release of LineageOS 22 on the 19th of August 2025, and followed by LineageOS 23 on the 3rd of September. Now, the official releases are finally ready to roll and will be available for download shortly.

Happy Birthday, FP6! :birthday_cake:

S u p e r ! Congrats and thank you

Yay! Go you for making the Fairphone 6 actually usable!

Yesssss!

Still waiting for LOS with microG, but everything is on its way.

Using microG has become really easy, you can install the regular LineageOS version and then install microG from F-Droid. Works like a charm on the unofficial Lineage 23.2 I’m running right now

Awesome! Thank you so much!

Is it possible and safe to upgrade OTA from the unofficial build of 23.0 with MindTheGapps? I will of course back everything up, but I was wondering if it is certain to not work and I need to flash from scratch or whether it’s worth trying it out.

It should be possible, but you must manually sideload it, there will be no automatic OTA update.

Really? And it passes every consistency check?

OK, I’ll give it a try and hope that my banking app works.

Build is up. Thanks for all this.

Well, I can’t guarantee anything of course, but so far I’ve experienced no difference to LOS for microG which I’ve used for quite some time on a OnePlus device. The two banking apps I use work fine.

If I recall correctly, the reason LOS for microG existed in the first place was because you couldn’t just install microG after installing LOS, so it had to be installed while installing LOS (I think it had to do with microG having to be installed on some system partition that wasn’t acessible after OS installation or something like that). LOS for microG thus made it easier because microG was already included “out of the box”. But this doesn’t seem to be necessary anymore, the official installation instructions don’t mention any complicated requirements anymore (see Installation · microg/GmsCore Wiki · GitHub).

Good luck with your trials!

These are very important information that make me change my point of view.

If microG works better and better without the restrictions, it becomes more and more likely that the guys from microG might end making their own builds within the lifespan of my FP6 .

So I’ll go with official LOS and report if my banking apps work or not.

Hello ! thanks for this official release.
Coming from unofficial, can you confirm that i can skip directly to this step ?
without the need to wipe data

Got stuck with “fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img”.

Transfer was OKAY but when i select “recovery mode” in the fastboot menu, it’s still the “Android Recovery”.

So any verification of “lineage-23.2-20260625-nightly-FP6-signed.zip” keeps failing.

EDIT: I think the manual is wrong, because it didn’ t tell me to flash recovery, img.

What if you enter “fastboot reboot recovery” instead of selecting it with the hardware keys? Also, which images did you flash from bootloader prior to this step?

I’ve flashed

fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
fastboot flash init_boot init_boot.img
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img

But not recovery.img

In the end I decided to flash recovery.img as well. This made me get into the right recovery from LOS.

Great then. Good choice and the right one. @ArianK16a if it is still the same as on the unofficial builds, the installation instructions should be amended:slightly_smiling_face:

That’s right, i have updated the instructions. Thanks for letting me know

Hi! It’s so great - an official maintainer! So I hesitated to write- but after installing the “birthday-build” I notice some problems again: Browser (FreeBrowser) redirects slowlier, SofaScore, AntennaPod resp. ÖffiSounds, RadioDroid, and PipePipe need nearly (really!) a minute to load a podcast / a station / a video/audio, and this for every station every time. Switching to MobileData: whooosch-rapidly it works. Back to WLAN: waiting for a connection.

I noticed the mentioned issues since the May-update. Switching back to March-build shows rapid connections in Browser etc. -everything worked like a charm.

I did not change any settings on phone or in apps - so I have really no idea what to do to enjoy the new build completely.

Please apologize my probatly weird English - but did anyone has the same issues?

Maybe solved?

After reading and searching  I changed Private DNS ‘dnsforge’ to ‘dns.adguard-dns’; testsites suggested I could only reach IPv4 with dnsforge. Let see what will work - me won’t…

Just testing my banking apps (with microG)

  • DKB :white_check_mark:
  • Hanseatic Bank :white_check_mark:
  • Targo Bank :prohibited: Can’t register “easyTAN”

When I’m in “Contacts”, the transparent lower “key bar” (:reverse_button: :record_button: :stop_button:) flickrs when scrolling through the contacts.

:cup_with_straw::watermelon::watermelon::grapes:…sorry, just too hot.
