Nova Launcher shutting down (follow up on Which launcher App could really replace Nova Launcher)

Since the news about the dev crew being minimized for Nova launcher I started looking for real and good replacement solution.
Any idea for a seriously good replacement?
The only thing I found so far that seems to be maintained still is Total launcher

I personaly switched to using “Kvaesitso” from f-droid.

Its kinda an unique looking launcher.

Have you already faced any disadvantages using Nova?
For me, it’s still working fine.

No, love it and I use since my first Galaxy S1, I guess it was the second app (Prime) I bought for Android.

I just want to be prepared in case the one man dev cannot cope with the requests from the users or in case the one person gives up at a certain point in time

My favorites are Neo Launcher (a lot of features) & Fast Draw (minimalistic but very user friendly), both are open source.

Lawnchair if they ever bother releasing a stable version again.

I use Microsoft launcher. I am happy about it.

People on the ars technica discussion about Nova were enthusiastic about https://niagaralauncher.app/, so that’s my replacement choice right now.

Yup I’ve been using this for the past few months. I bought the paid version even! It works great and it has everything I’d ever want from a launcher.

I tried KISS Launcher several years ago and it works perfectly for me.
Very simple, fast and I have 5 favorites.
The rest is just an easy search away.

I’m also very happy with Niagara. I would not say it’s a direct replacement for Nova – I assume someone using Nova will like the stock-but-better experience, and Niagara very much has its own character.

But yes, would fully recommend giving Niagara a spin! This is my setup:

I see lot of people here talking about their use of Nova Launcher.

I’m sad to tell them that it is the end of this launcher this month…

I can’t tell nothing else than try to choose free open-source software (FOSS) launcher to replace it.

Historical developer of Nova Launcher asked the company that bought it and now shut it down to allow him to make the app code open-source, they refused…

In any situation, try to prefer FOSS over closed source ones, at least someone can fork it when someone decides to stop it…

Android Authority recommends “Kvaesitso”, you can find it on f-droid, where you can also find Ion Launcher or the minimalist Fossify Launcher.

Hi, I hope you don’t mind that I merged your post with the old one on replacing Nova so users can benefit from the reopening the discussion.

That’s not quite the same topic as mine is definitely not for finding a replacement, but to announce something that is known since a few days, the shut down of the launcher.

That’s why the title I made doesn’t talk about finding a replacement.

“Replacement” part of my post only is here to motivate people choosing FOSS, whatever they choose.

Well, if all these fans had properly supported the original developer in the first place, they might not have had to sell out. Support your developers!

[Edit - removed “FOSS”]

Nova is and was not FOSS.

And yes, donations are important for FOSS softwares.

Hi. I understand. I modified the title of the old topic to reflect that.

I still believe it is beneficial to analyse the alternatives and they were discussed before.

However, if you are unhappy with my merging, please send me a DM and we will try to find an optimal solution
