My phone has suddenly stopped charging. I don’t know if it’s the battery or the port, but I need a phone and can’t wait months to get them to help me troubleshoot and for a part to come in stock. I need a working phone.
So: which other phones do you recommend? I used to have phones from the Moto G line and was very happy with them. I don’t do anything resource-intensive, just phone calls, messaging, RSS feeds, radio/podcasts/audiobooks, occasional YouTube. Every phone I’ve had has had a fine enough camera, so I don’t think I need to go wild for something like that.
I’m looking for a less expensive option given that I wasted twice what I’d normally spend on my FP4 and that has become unusable in just two years (the A15 update has been a disaster for me already).
Any cheap second hand phone you can get your hands on that is on the official lineageos device list.
I’ve had good experience with Motorola, OnePlus and Pixel. Avoid Huawei. Xiaomi generally has a good price/performance, though I haven’t seen them be long lasting.
My partner had this problem with an FP4 a couple of months ago. After doing all the recommended tests, I ordered a new usb port. I am not very competent or confident at repair but it was pretty easy to follow the instructions and it worked! Happy ending.
Fully agree with @yvmuell Yvonne but would add a power bank of similar (physical) size to your FP4 (assuming the phone will take external power, just not charge the battery). Another assumption - you can get a power bank quicker than a new USB port.
If you decide that another phone is the way to go, I’d consider a used Google Pixel as these seem to have the best software support and therefore the longest (and hopefully greenest) life. That’s where I expect to look when my FP4 (bought in 2022) finally dies/ drops off security updates.
