Microphone volume extremely low when recording video (except on camera app)

Hi !
When I use my new FP6 to record videos on any app but the camera app (I tried Instagram, Snapchat and What’s App), the microphone volume is extremely low, to the point where you can barely hear anything on the video.
It doesn’t happen with videos taken on the camera app, and it doesn’t affect the volume of audio messages on the other apps, only videos.
I did check that the apps have authorization to use the microphone, and restarted my phone.

Any ideas on how to fix it, or anyone experiencing this problem ?

Don’t use your apps, but can confirm that videos recorded with the Google port don’t have adequate sound.
Videos recorded with Open Camera are OK.

I found someone with the same issue as I do, but on /e/OS :

Still not fixed as far as I know…

Update : I noticed that when I record a video using an app (and not the camera), only the top mic is working. The bottom one isn’t. I think this is the issue…

Still hasn’t improved, and the guy I found that had the same problem got his phone replaced…

While the wording is not an exact fit to all of these issues, I would still see a chance that the announced 11 August update might provide at least partial improvements.

I really hope so, I’m kind of worried because I looked up “Mic not working on 3rd party apps” on google and found a lot of topics from the last five years or so, on Samsung, Iphone, Google Pixel, but no fix anywhere ^^°

Well, the update didn’t help at all :c
Anyone else encountering this issue, or better yet knowing how to fix is ?

Yes I did report to FP, they also told me to update and see if it was any better.

Waiting for their answer now that I told them it didn’t help.

Hello, same for me, instagram or signal it’s really low volume and bad quality when I record a video/audio message..

The only workaround is to take the video with the camera app and send it to insta, not really easy top mic seems to be the one that been used by apps, like you mention earlier

Same Problem here with signal, when I send a selfie video Sound is almost mute. fairphone ist new!

Bumping this to keep it open — it’s my primary issue with the phone. Unfortunately it’s so atrociously bad still (after the latest updates) that I had to pull out my old phone to tune my 3D printer’s belt tension…

My fairphone didn’t even register I was plucking the belt…

Hello,

Unfortunately I have the same issue with my phone. Videos recorded with the standard camera app have normal (but could be a bit louder) sound.

In videos recorded in Signal or Threema only the top microphone is working and the sound is very quiet.

OS version: FP6.QREL.15.148.0

The phone is now less then one week in usage.

Same here, volume very low, except for the camera app. I thought it was a problem of Signal messenger.

I dont use video messages in signal, however using voice message I dont have issues. So is this only when using video? Also using the Fossify voice recorder, it is a lot better than before, so its usable in the meantime.

However everyone having issues report to support an be precise under which circumstances the App uses only the top mic

By the way there is a Signal group for Fairphone users, maybe you want to join it to get help there and interact with other Signal users using Fairphones.

We could try to tackle that problem down there and then present a solution in this forum.

It seems to be a problem across all third party apps, because we now have a pretty long list : instragram, snapchat, signal, Threema…
