Microfone muffled

Hello i have my Fairphone 5 for 3 weeks now and im loving the phone, but i have a issue that is recurrent and annoying.
When im recording video of anything that is loud the video sounds muffled, the same occurs on WhatsApp audio messages. If its quiet the video and audios sounds perfectly fine.
Example for this situations on videos are recording concerts or waterfalls, and in audios i noticed that my cars noise will cause it to do the same.
Never had this issue on any of my previous phones, the last one was a Samsung s20 ultra.

Hope someone can help.

Unfortunately, this issue is at least known since Fairphone 4 and there is not a solution up to now.

There is a turnaround described in this article by Leowiz Massive sound issues in recording videos - #10 by leowiz.

Maybe it will help you. But itā€™s not the part of the customers to find a suitable solution, itā€™s the producers task.

As FP4 and FP5 share neither any SW nor any HW this is most likely not the same issue or at least a fix on the FP4 would not help the FP5 or vice versa.

@PCalamote best is to contact Fairphone support. infos under this link contactsupport

Edit and for Video Audio Quality you might want to test Open Camera App

As I know and as I read, this issue was only found by Fairphones with FairphoneOS. Not another phone (Motorola, iPhone, Samsung and even the cheapest Android phones) have made a such distorting recording like my Fairphone. In this special case IĀ“m just a customer and expecting a solution because it was the most expensive phone I ever buyed.

And IĀ“m really sorry, that itĀ“s not an individual case of mine and as a customer I expect a fully functional phone even by sound and video recordings. Maybe the developers will mark this as a peripheral bug and the causes are not ident, but the symptoms.

But I will be fair and give your mentioned contact a chance, if he would not ask me, to made all the tests again.

The fix I found for the FP4 also turned out to work for my FP5, which is to use OpenCamera and set the sound source to ā€œunprocessed.ā€ This allowed me to eliminate the annoying distortion filter. However, in very loud environments (like live music), the recording quality is still noticeably worse compared to other smartphones Iā€™ve used in the past. Unfortunately, this seems to confirm that the microphones are lower quality than I expected. I contacted support, but they informed me that this issue cannot be addressed at the software level. This is disappointing to me because I initially assumed the microphones were fine and that the problem was due to the software applying an aggressive noise reduction filter. It seems the issue is hardware-related, and I doubt it will be resolved.

These are not good news. Both phone ar using so-called different hard- and software and have the same issue by recording in loud areas. ItĀ“s not an every day function, but for special events meanwhile a main function for a phone - so as a customer we are expecting a better support and a clearer statement from the manufacturer.

If this problem couldnĀ“t be fixed, it will be the first and last Fairphone IĀ“ve buyed.
