For all the ones, that are closed out from the updates due to the provider.
How about updating manually?

Or is it too much trouble?
I’m just asking as I’m still not so long into Fairphone devices.
Data loss, unlocked bootloader and so on…
Backup, open bootloader, flashing the new software, closing bootloader, restore backup?!
This should work, as the images aren’t touched or modified in any way.
Yeah I know, this is some kind of manual work.
such an approach is really nothing any “normal” user wants to take…
A good incitation to have a proper backup …
You’re right, but a “normal” user normally doesn’t care at all about updates. That’s my experience with all the people in environment, besides the ones that are familiar computing or technic in general.
There isn’t really a way to fully backup the data partition without an open bootloader (and even then I wouldn’t know how to do it without TWRP), or what do you mean with “restoring backup”?
Just a small question, I see ‘lock bootloader’ in lots of posts as step after flassing a new version of FPs original image. Why would you want to do that after manually flassing an image? You’ll need to unlock the bootloader again anyway on the next update, why not keep it unlocked?
Because some apps recognize an open bootloader and refuse to work. Also some devices detect an open bootloader and refuse updates.
Just using a backup app (e.g. Helium), manual via ADB or even, if you want, Google backup in the cloud to store your individual app settings to restore them later. So you don’t need to re-configure every app again after a clean re-install from Playstore or wherever you get your apps from.
This only works for some apps and out of experience, you have to reconfigure most of your apps (which takes like 10h for me in total)
Ah, ok. Apps checking bootloader is completely new to me. That OS updates fail is logical though. I open bootloader to set it up how I like it (Rooted with Magisk and some nice modules to get rid of ads and block store access to some apps), which usually is not how the supplier wants devices to be used.
That’s also my mindset
But I never experienced that the device doesn’t update with stock images and an open bootloader
I never had an device with open bootloader and stock image. My A13 I really would love to replace now has a rooted stock image and as expected Samsung refuses to update that image. (no wonder, rooted)
Maybe. But none of the FP models
