Unfortunately, this seems to refer exclusively to FP5 (as was to be expected). However, this is not clear from the email.
I have an FP4 registered with FP, so why are they sending such an email to customers that is not relevant to me at all and that doesn’t mention that this only applies to one (other) product?
I’ve also got an email about Android 14, with the fitter suggesting I’ve bought a Fairphone 5. However I’ve not bought a Fairphone 5. I’ve bought most of the previous versions but haven’t found the need to upgrade yet, so am still on the Fairphone 4.
The latest update comes with a security patch level from July 5th, 2024, and will start rolling out to Fairphone 5 users shortly. And if you’re using a Fairphone 4, we haven’t forgotten about you. Expect to hear from us by mid-September.
So it seems like the email was sent to FP4 customers by mistake. Apparently, patience is a virtue.
Also, the email mentioned “Software Update” in settings (see the screenshot), but in Android 13 there’s no such section in settings, although there is a “System update” section.
Same here. I saw the FP5 upgrade posts so I knew it was coming but thought they’d just mucked up their marketing…I guess we will have to wait to September to moan about the upgrade breaking something on our FP4s
Adding insult to injury, I just received an e-mail from Fairphone saying that Android 14 is now available for my phone. In the small print at the bottom of the e-mail it reads “you receive these e-mails because you purchased a Fairphone 5”. One minor detail though: I’ve never purchased one of those. I’ve had my Fairphone 4 for 2.5 years and have no intention of replacing it.
I may have stable-diffused a Fairphone 5. Which is a bit like manifesting one, I can see how the mailer-bots were confused.
Mind you, originally my post/complaint (…com-post?) was posted in the “FP needs more security updates” thread - which puts the adding-insult-to-injury remark in a bit more context. However, rather unhelpfully my post was taken out of context and merged into this thread instead.
I also recieved a couple days ago a mail about A14, with a “You receive this email because you bought a Fairphone 5” headline. I did not buy a FP5…
Well, their database seems a little confused.
I did not sign up for a newsletter AFAIK (and didn’t notice receiving any so far, unless they are really rare and far inbetween).
Also, the email is very specific:
You receive this email because you bought a Fairphone 5.
[…]
We couldn’t be happier to announce the roll-out of Android 14 for your Fairphone.
(Emphasis mine)
For the record, I only ever bought one FP4, so it can’t be that they assume I had also bought the latest model as usual.
The only other explanation is that this was a very clumsy general notification about a general A14 deployment, but so far I didn’t see any sign of any kind of update for my FP4. (Security updates would be real nice BTW.)

yeah, it said that it was because of me having purchased the 5, too. the only Fairphone I’ve bought is the 4, and it’s been happily running Android 14 with CalyxOS for a while now…
I have received this email as well, and after that, the email where they apologize for the mistake, no worries, i can understand that, but it has been months since that one.
Really it feels like i am abandoned, like, heh, you loser, buy a fp5 to get them. This is not a Fair politics, it is business after all. I learned to live with the bulky and heavy feeling, with the bad kind of display which will never wake on the tap, with the awful sound(yeah right, crystal clear for the high sounds like the cheapest speakers) I do like the idea of the possibility to change stuff easily, but guess what, my old oneplus 6T is being used by my wife, how many years later? 6-7? And they give me the same amount of time, worth it? In my opinion no, and that one is lighter, more qualitative and more powerful if not mistaking, but definitely not worse. Screw it. Sorry, I am a recycling electronics guy, but this is not what i have expected!
