Liquid contact indicators

,

Quick question: I know the FP3 has liquid contact indicators (LCI) that show if water has entered the phone. Is this also the case for FP4 (and FP5)? And if so, where are they? Thanks!

I just dropped my fp4 into a bathtub. It only submerged the lower part of the phone, but the charging connector was definitely fully submerged. No warning on the phone.

Hi @harmen97,

I’m not 100% convinced but it looks like the is one on the top of the motherboard right side looking from the back of the FP5.

and so far i did’t spot one more. but there must be at least a second one i believe.

greetings

Tom

Hi @peci1

oef sorry to hear that,

i expect you are already familiar with the guide how to reduce the change of permanent water damage to your phone?

wish you good luck.

Tom

I happened to take a few Fairphone :four: shots the other day (actually just to upgrade our meetup announcement picture), but took the opportunity to lift the “forbidden” core module shield off the FP4. You can figure out a suspect easily, although I am not 100 % sure.

A second Fairphone :five: suspect:

I guess the assumption is close by that this is where the FP4 might have got another LCI as well. However, I already checked and the FP4 does not have an LCI in the battery tray.

Oh, it seems I misunderstood what is this topic about. I thought you’re asking for the piece that informs the OS that there is liquid in the charging port (so that the OS can show warning, disable charging etc.).

If you were asking for the one-time indicators that just change color when submerged, then I don’t know anything about them

Unfortunately the FP website only mentions that FP4 has several of them inside its frame.

@urs_lesse I am not sure I understood whether you were talking about FP4 or FP5 but I got the feeling you managed to identify at least some of those LCI.
Would you consider updating the water wiki?

Edit. Thank you!

I merged my two replies here. Actually I don’t know if I could clarifiy it any further, the first photo has FP4 written above it, the second photo FP5. The final comment simply says that unlike the FP5 battery tray (photo 2), the FP4 battery tray does not seem to have an LCI.
