Since the firmware update to version V65 the left earbud does not connect to the phone (I hear the white noise of the ambient mode, so it is on, but music only plays on the right one) and when opening the Fairbuds App, I see that it has 10%, after charging it for some hours it still does not connect and the app still says its at 10%. It also does not give any of the Fairbud sounds (“Connected”, The Tap-Sound, etc…).
It might be noteworthy that the Fairbuds App crashed right after installing the firmware, but I think that was also the case when I installed V56.
I have a Fairphone 5 with /e/OS-2.3-beta-t ROM (shouldn’t be important but just in case).
I have the same problem. I cleaned the charging points and even bought a new battery for the left fairbud. But it doesn’t help… I continues to display 10% battery and isn’t providing any sound.
I deleted and reconnected the bluetooth connection, restarted phone, long pressed the connection button in fairbuds case… none of it helps…
@heschy and @MKoolhoven you could contact our customer support and arrange a return, we would love to test around with your devices and understand the issue better
I have the same problem since two days. Via App it says my left is at 10% and my right bud is at 100%. I interchanged the batteries of the two buds from left to right and from right to left bud and it shows again 10% left and 100% right . Update on app doesn’t progress. It stays at 0% or 1% and stops. Also after reinstalling multiple times.
Problem occured on my end exactly as OP described:
App crash right after firmware update V65 finished, after that left Earbud stayed at 10% the whole evening yesterday, no matter what.
Today however it seems fine again - wondering if it’s only occuring when the app is running?
Has anyone a solution to this yet?
I’m having an issue with my Fairphone Fairbuds where the left earbud won’t charge properly and won’t connect. No matter what I do, it stays stuck at 10% battery.
What I’ve Tried So Far:
• Cleaning the charging contacts on both the case and the earbud.
• Switching the batteries between the left and right earbuds (the right one still works fine, so the battery itself seems okay).
• Trying different chargers and cables to rule out power issues.
• Ensuring the earbud is seated correctly in the case.
• Leaving it in the case for an extended time to see if it charges.
The right earbud is working fine, but the left one just won’t charge beyond 10%, and it won’t connect either.
Unfortunately I would just recommend that you return them for a repair or refund if possible. Even if you can get them to work, theyre not supposed to be like that.
If you bought them through a reseller, then contact them first. The customer service for fairphone can be quite slow (though I did get my fairbuds fixed for a defect through fairphone).
I’ve had the same issues for over a month now. And now the left earbud is just stuck at 10%. I’ve once more drained both, drained the charger overnight and put them both back in.
I’ve swapped the batteries and it’s still 10%/80%, suggesting that the battery was actually at an almost full charge, but the buds electronics/bluetooth/telemetry are botched, causing it to refuse to stay on after connecting.
So if Fairphone needs another sample… I’m out of options.
As for possible causes - Yes, my left fairbud has dropped. Several times. I’ve had to pick it up from a dirt path multiple times. And normally it shuts down immediately on impact.
That leads to another question I will take out of this conversation…
The 10%/90% status remains, and the left bud will n
Same issue here, for a while. Now since 3 days the left earbud is refusing completely to connect or charge. Same as others, the app reports left earbud as 10% charged, no matter when checking or how long placed in the case.
Hi everyone, I had the same issue 2 times now, nothing worked to make it work again so I sent it for a fix and they told me everything was ok and sent me back working, now it’s the third time it dont’t work anymore, I’m tired of sending on a repair, I asked the repair service, they told me they can’t tell me what they do to make it work… I regret so much my buying…
Hi,
I had quite a similar problem. Before Christmas my left earbud stopped working.
It didn’t connect, didn’t turn on, was apparently not charging and in the app it showed up with 10% battery.
I did the standard procedure, cleaned the case and buds, made sure the electric contacts were clean and fully charged the case. But still they wouldn’t work.
So I took my voltmeter and tested if the charging circuits had a problem. I measured ~3V on both ports so that was ok.
Then I took out both batteries. The earbuds use LIR1054, these are Li-Ion batteries. Voltage range from ~3-4.2V. When these are discharged too low, these are a fire hazard and so most charging circuits won’t charge them anymore when they are below 3V.
Now I measured on the right earbud battery 4.2V which is expected when fully charged.
But on the left one I only had 2.7V
So somehow it over-discharged. This should not happen. Usually the protective circuits around those batteries disconnects it completely before its unsafe to charge them.
Although it’s not recommended and can be a fire hazard, sometimes those batteries can be restored when charged cautiously with little current. I have a charger that can do this for another project, and was able to recovery the battery. I put the battery back into the earbud and after fully charging it with the case I was able to turn it on and connect to it again.
Still, this shouldn’t have happened. I use my fairbuds regularly, I never let them lie around without the case and I charge the case when its empty.
Maybe the protection circuit is broken, I don’t know.
I’ve contacted the support with this, maybe they know more. I hope they can at least replace the battery.
Maybe this helps some of you with similar problems, but be really careful if you want to charge these batteries by yourself! You need to know what you are doing! Always use chargers that are made for Li-Ion batteries! Please don’t do this if you are not sure!
