iodéOS experiences on FP6?

Anyone had success with iodéOS?

I hear it’s particularly good re banking apps, compared to other de-Googled Android distros.

I’d be interested in whether it’s a viable way of sidestepping the bugs on vanilla Fairphone Android.

There is no general advice anyone can give, it fully depends on the App.

You can have a look here for the banking app you need. But it isn’t guaranteed that this will last forever…

I am using iodéOS on FP6.

  • Picture quality is not great
  • There is this weird bug lately that many apps and websites first show a white screen and open only after a long wait.

In all other regards, I am very happy with this OS on FP6. Banking apps and DigiD are working for me.

Did you move straight to IodéOS or have you tried e/OS first? I am considering moving to IodéOS after e/OS dropped Seedvault without notice. But picture/video quality seems to be worse on Iodé due to the lack of support of Fairphone camera app.

This is because of a firmware bug from FP and is also present in stock FPOS, see DNS over TLS/IPv6 issues- Apps don't load data over Wifi - #543 by Watchdog
The next update of iode will integrate older fw blobs which resolve the issue until FP fixed it.

Regarding camera, Arian wrote this about the lack of the FP camera app: [OFFICIAL] LineageOS 23 for The Fairphone (Gen. 6) - #160 by ArianK16a

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I didn’t know where to start looking for the cause (Android, FP, LineageOS, IodéOS, a specific app, the hardware of my specific phone…)
And very nice to hear that Iodé will implement a workaround until FP fixes it.

I was aware that the the full resolution is not available outside FPOS and /e/OS. Though I am still looking for a camera app with a bit more functionality for editing the picture afterwards, and different picture modes etc. Or is that also not possible for the same reason?

I didn’t try /e/OS first, so I can’t compare it unfortunately. I did use FPOS before installing Iodé though. The camera app was definitely nicer there, and the pictures looked better.
