Impossible to update Fairbuds XL

What a customer experience… I want to update my brand new Fairbuds XL so the EQ settings are kept.

On iPhone 14: one can get to the update screen, but the yellow button cannot be pressed. Tried all sorts of remedies, factory reset, turning bluetooth on and off, same procedure on an iPad etc.

On an Android phone (of my children, again: what an experience): Fairbuds app refuses to show the general page of the headphones, only the “pair” page although it is already clearly paired (playing music). When choosing the color and then immediately clicking “back”, the general page appears, which says that the battery level and the firmware version is “N/A”…

That’s not normal. I recommend you contactsupport .

I have the same issue. Iphone 11 latest iOS

I also have the same issue as outlined in the post above (even with the app update that was pushed 4 days ago).

The yellow “Update Now” button is unresponsive.

iPhone 14 Pro
iOS 17.5.1
Fairbuds App Version 2.0.4

Obligatory sad face :frowning: as the button has continued to be unresponsive.

And did you ever inform Fairphone?

Yes, request number 1183455, but the reply gave the standard procedures that I already tried at length.

In the end, I had to use an Android phone and try many times until it suddenly worked.

Please know this issue is so early in the user experience that I would have sent it back if that approach did not work either.

Well… I understand that you need patience to communicate with CS, however its the only way to get things addressed. So when the comversation stopped they might believe its fixed?

I’ve got to find an android (or I guess Fairphone) friend eh? To let me borrow their device for like 10 minutes.

Unlucky, but oh well.

I recently bought the fairbuds-xl. I downloaded the app and connected the headphones to my phone (iPhone 15, iOS 18). The app states that an update is available. I open the update page from the settings which is stating that “Version 90” is available. However, I tried clicking the “Update now” button several times, but it seems that it is not updating. The button provides no feedback and the headphones are also seem not to be updating.

As I am new I cannot determine whether the yellow button is in a ‘disabled’ state or not, and if so, why I cannot update the firmware on my headphone.
Any suggestions why I cannot update the firmware? Should it be charging while updating or not? Or is it some other issue?

Hi and welcome to the community forum, marzman95.

I’ve moved your post here, as it’s the same problem you are facing.

Thanks for moving my issue to this thread. The solution proposed here is to use an Android phone? As stated, I use iOS, and have for years.
It is very strange that updating is not working on iOS. Are there any other suggestions, or should I email support?

Hi marz,

Yeah it would seem we have to use an android phone to circumvent this issue with non-support on iOS.

I still haven’t achieved this workaround myself (haven’t seek-ed out a friend to borrow their phone for 10-30 minutes). Still just making sure to open the app in the background when using the XLs.

Sigh,
Unfortunate

Hej Hej,

Same issue here with my Fairbuds XL, I can’t press the “Update now” button.

  • iOS Version 18.3.2
  • iPhone 14 Pro

EDIT: Added information that I’m unable to press the “Update now” button.

Try to keep the update process in the foreground. I know, you shouldn’t have to. But this is how FP quality in general is

Yeah if the update would have started I would be fine with keeping the update process in the foreground but I can’t even press the button.

In the same position myself, on iOS18. Bit irritating really, especially as I’m using the ‘Studio’ setting.

So it has been a year now since I was last able to update (OG post was also from May 2024). Is there any news about when will be getting fixed? Or just even acknowledgement that it’s known to not be working.

I have the same issue, iPhone 16e, iOS 18.4.1. Has this app ever worked?
