I managed to stand on the screen of my FP5 - with most of my weight on my heel.
Not only is the screen not cracked it is working fine as a touchscreen. I had the rather thin Biowaves case so a bit of weight was on the raised edge, and I had a screen protector on which I’m sure made no difference at all.
Very occasionally I get a bottom-to-top white line effect for a moment that reminds me of a swipe up transition but that’s the only difference I’ve noticed. I maybe get it a few times a week max and can still see and use the screen. So I’m pretty impressed.
I swapped to FP5 from a regular handset with a military grade case because I drop it a lot, outdoors especially
I once had an experience of a small truck running over my FP4, which I accidentally dropped screen up. The standard FP4 case + screen protector. I wiped the screen afterwards from the tyre print, and it works without any changes.
If you haven’t done so yet, you might want to quickly check on the battery as well – remove it from the device, check for visible damage and also try if you can make it spin when placed on a flat surface.
The OP mentions his opinion that the presence of the screen protector probably made no difference to the outcome. Of course we cannot know whether it did or not. I would like to suggest the we should not take this as a discouragement to use screen protectors.
I have had 2 occasions when my FP5 fell face down onto rough concrete. On both occasions the screen protector cracked, but the screen itself was unharmed. I’m convinced that had not the screen protector been present the screen would have broken instead.
I too have smashed multiple screen protectors on concrete (not on a FP) and as a result never cracked a screen, I can’t say if the screen protector helped but it certainly wasn’t damaged (it isn’t the FP branded one btw).
Based on my experience, too: screen protectors make difference when dropping phone screen down - easier and cheaper to replace the protector than the screen.
In the case of just uniform weight pressure on the phone, I don’t think that screen protector is very important.
