I fixed an SMS issue with Fairphone 5. Here's how

I just bought a Fairphone 5 and I am using the Austrian provider SBUDGET, which is based on the provider Magenta.

While I was setting up the phone, I noticed that while calls work, I could send SMS using the Google Messages app but could not receive them.

After 1 hour of searching for fixes, here’s how I did it:

  1. Open the test menu using the number *#*#4636#*#*
  2. Choose “Phone Information”
  3. Scroll all the way down to “SMSC”
  4. Press “Refresh”, then “Update”
  5. Install an alternative App for sending and receiving SMS. I chose the app Textra
  6. Sending and receiving SMS should work now

If that guide helps just one person with this isue, I am very happy.
