How to use USB-Tethering with macOS 10.13 High Sierra?

Fairphone 2
OS: Fairphone Open 17.10.1
iMac: macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Bluetooth-Tethering works fine but I do not know how to use USB Tethering.

I do the following:

  1. Connect FP2 via USB with the iMac.
  2. I switch FP2 to MTP mode.
  3. I allow in the FP2 settings USB-Tethering.

I am able to transfer files from/to FP2, after enabling USB debugging cf. topic Not working as USB device – dodgy bottom unit?.

However in the network settings of my iMac, FP2 does not show up.
In contrats when I connect my old iPhone4 allowing USB-tethering, the iPhone4 pops up as service.

How can I tell the iMac that it should use the FP2 as network connection ?

Thanks for your help.

Not sure whether HORNDIS compatible with High Sierra:http://joshuawise.com/horndis

It is compatible and have just tried upon FP2 17.10.1 (not sure about Open OS). Go to Settings > *** More (below Data usage) > Tethering & portable hotspot > Enable USB tethering

Hi aspergerguy

Thanks for your help. Indeed HORNDIS works with Fairphone Open 17.10.2 and macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

For the small minority of Mac OSX users utilising USB tether with the release of Catalina 10.15.5 HoRNDIS feature will cease to work, although to be fair Apple have been prompting that it would be disabled at this release.

There is a 'workaround" to keep this feature working, although it would require “trusting” .pkg signed by third-party. Subject is discussed in more detail here, although a “restart” is required after installation:
