There is this feature in the Display Settings called “Ambient Display” or in German “Inaktivitätsdisplay”. I know it somehow wakes up your screen when you get a notification, but I haven’t figured out how it works.

notifications wake up the phone and it displays a “news” screen. a simplified lockscreen, black on white, no background image, with notification(s).
