Hearing aids and FP6

My first post and my first FP. So here goes…
I’ve had the FP6 for about a week and I’m very happy with my purchase. I’ve not found any issues or downside. And the best thing is it supports ASHA protocol and Bluetooth LE. My Oticon Intent hearing aids work perfectly at home(even in the next room) or out walking
My previous phone was an iPhone 15 pro max and even though the Oticon’s are MFI (made for iPhones) streaming was appalling, it would just about stream music at home if the iphone was next to me. But out walking forget it. Oticon’s advice was place the iPhone in a pocket near to the hearing aids, ensuring the screen faces the body with the charging port facing up towards the hearing aids. Streaming would still cutout if the iPhone was in my left chest pocket and I turned my head to the right. Totally ridiculous.
I guess it could be considered a downside because i’ve still got quite a bit of work todo to fully sever myself from Apple eco system but it’ll be worth it. Just to have something that works. Well done Fairphone!

As a hearing aid user this is a very encouraging piece of feedback.

Plastic is probably better for letting signals through.

I should add that I made my first call today. I don’t have any issues with my hearing but the volume was only adequate. In a noisy environment it might be too difficult to hear or if you have some hearing loss but don’t wear a hearing aid.

Thank you for sharing this.
I’m also using an Oticon Intent and just switched my order at Congstar from FP5 to FP6.
So i’m really happy that the hearing aid problem of the FP5 could be resolved in FP6.

The streaming problems you encountered on your iPhon sound exactly like the streaming with my Samsung Galaxy A52.
It works if the ohone is near the hearing aids and gets unstable when i put it in a pocket, really happy that this gets better with FP6.

EDIT: Can you use the microphone of the Oticons for phonecalls or do you need to use the microphone of the FP?
That’s something that really p****s me off on my Samsung.

I’m happy to tell you phone calls use the Oticon microphones.
I’ve not tested in a noisy environment to see how well the noise suppression is working.
But also, I was able to answer calls on my Garmin watch and chat while the phone was 5 metres away in another room.

Thank you very much for sharing this.

I have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to connect my hearing aids to a Fairphone for a long time.

Does this also work with streaming (podcasts, music, etc.)?

Hi, I’ve not had any issues. Doesn’t matter if it’s phone call, WhatsApp, YouTube, Amazon music or WebTV etc. Sounds come though to my Oticon Intent hearing aids. Audio is Loud and clear. And If I answer a call from my Garmin watch after it’s been announced through my hearing aids, sometimes I don’t even know where in the house my phone is

Also, forgot to mention, in the Oticon app if you set ‘answer calls faster’ in ‘hearing aid settings’, the double tap works to answer calls.

Thank you again for this information :star_struck:

That’s good to hear because I was thinking on getting rid of my Fairphone again

I am happy with it in general but have a bad experience concerning my hearing aids. I am also using oticon intent but the audio streaming is very choppy, jumping from left to right and sometimes coming only from one side. Additionally as soon as I activate LE audio, I get no sound at all.

I have no idea how to fix this :frowning:

Hi, You need to reboot the phone and re-pair the hearing aids

If you’re unsure follow this:

After turning on LE audio on the FP6 go to Bluetooth and select Forget hearing aids. Reboot FP6.

Turnoff or put the Hearing aids in their charger. Go to the Opticon app and follow the instructions to start the pairing. Hopefully now you’ll be enjoying LE audio streaming.

Hi okright

Thanks for your help! To activate LE audio, I have to go into the oticon bluetooth settings.
I activated it, then told my phone to forget the HA, restarted and paired them again via oticon app.
However, if I do that, the LE audio slider is again off, which is the default.
If I turn it on again, I don’t get sound on my Oticon :frowning:

I think that LE Audio isnt working properly with the FP6, see this and linked topics

You best contact support and ask if its supported or if the plan to support it

Hi Sanduku, I don’t have any trouble with streaming LE audio to my Oticon intents. So I know it works.

ok. so let’s start again.

Go to Bluetooth and forget the Oticon hearing aids. Go to settings> apps>companion (Oticon)>storage and cache. Clear the storage and clear the Cache.

Open the companion app and follow the instructions to pair the hearing aids.

Hopefully you should see Bluetooth LE audio is enabled. And streaming works even from over 15mtrs away. Good luck.

Still not working after following your instructions step by step :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
There seems to be a problem either with my hearing aids or my fairphone.
I sent a support request to Fairphone and talked with my HA support to try out the phonak and see if it works better. Weird…

But thank you for taking the time and trying to help me!

Hi, are your oticon intent on firmware 1.2.1 or 1.3.0?

They are on 1.2.1
I can’t update them further though

That’s the version that works for me. I heard 1.3.0 is now available the next time you visit an audiologist.
