Has the official protective case been improved already?

First of all, some people will probably want to say there are alternative cases. I know :yum:

But this question is about the official case. Has anyone bought one very recently? My official case gets worse every month. My phone more easily falls out of the case because the material really has stretched. Even though I rarely take my phone out. Also because of the space, it moves within the case, causing scratches. So much for the protection! It of course already didn’t protect the screen because the edges are not raised.

Have recent owners seen improvements? Does it have raised edges? I’m hoping they refreshed their stock with an improved design.

That’s ridiculous, the stretchy cases have been a problem since FP3 - I’ve tried three. You’d think they’d learn. Get a Tudia case, it’s really, really good.

With many factors you would think they would learn. I can go for a 3rd party case. But then I’m almost wondering, why bother with Fairphone at all :stuck_out_tongue: For every issue is a 3rd party alternative.

But I’ve ordered a Tudia. I can test it out and see how that goes. In the past I had a Spigen case for my Pixel, it also had a flip stand. It was perfect! Always easy to watch something with that flip stand. Too bad they don’t have a FP case, yet.

I’ve got FP4 for 4 years and the official case is still great fit.

Each time they modified something (as far as I was able to track it), they would add an extra wording, like new, or presented it as a new device

The examples being new cables, a new USB-C adapter, new chargers.

So my reasonable guess is no for a case.

That case didn’t have the design flaws of the FP5 case. So maybe it was a regression with the FP5 one

It didn’t get loose after time? Edit - I never had a fp4 but the different original FP3 covers I had all sagged after a few months use

I had the FP4 for 2 years, I don’t remember this issue. Maybe it had it too, I really don’t remember.

Same for me with my FP4 since 3,5 years.

I’ve had an official cover on my FP3 for almost 4 years (since the bumper started to stretch and become loose) and it hasn’t given me any problems. I’m very happy with it.

Maybe it’s because I try not to take it out of it more than necessary, or maybe it’s the weather, but the truth is that it fits perfectly and I have no complaints about it (in fact, it keeps the white paint over the Fairphone logo, unlike the back cover of the FP3 ).

That’s weird. Do you keep it in your pocket? I keep my phone in my pocket all the time and I’ve had the stretching problem with three FP3 covers in a row. Never took it out of the covers either. I didn’t even bother returning the third one, just gave up on them. Well that goes to show: YMMV

Every day. And I use it as a car navigator and with its bluetooth connection, so it gets hot sometimes, especially in summer.

Could it be because of the colour? I have the black one. I think i read at some point on the forum that some cases (or other product) didn’t work equally well on all colours.

For a couple of years now I’ve put a silicone protector on the USB-C port and the strip that sticks to the back of the phone ‘fattens’ the effective size of the phone a little bit, but it’s only a few millimetres, I don’t think it’s very relevant for the stretching…

My Fairphone 3 back cover still has all letters in pristine white condition.
Perhaps I’m doing something wrong :face_with_monocle:.

It sounds like the Fairphone 4 case is the only one out of the last 3 that’s very good. A friend of mine also has it and has 0 complaints, and the bevel protects the screen well.

My experience with the FP5 case is bad as well like everyone says. A pity, because I really like its shade of green and how slim it is. But it ruined the official (€30!) screen protector in a matter of weeks, causing it to be scratched all over the edges because I tend to flip it when I don’t want to be distracted.

+1 for Tudia cases, very good service as well, I would just get a dark colour to prevent discolouring, if that matters to you.

According to customer support, the case has been improved:

"Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I’m sorry to hear that the protective case did not meet your expectations. We truly value input like yours as it helps us improve our products.

I’m happy to let you know that we have since improved the design of the Fairphone 5 protective case. The updated version offers better protection, including enhanced coverage around the camera and a slightly raised edge to help shield the screen from drops and scratches."

I cannot confirm this because I did not buy another case (yet). For now, I’m also rocking a black Tudia case.

That’s excellent news! I already have my Tudia on its way. But maybe I’ll return it if it’s not to my liking and try out the revised FP5 case.

I had two black ones and a green one (FP3), all showed extreme stretching to the point where the phone would fall out spontaneously :person_shrugging:

For context, I have the dark gray/black FP5 case.

Good to hear that they improved it, but can anybody confirm this is really the case? I don’t see this mentioned anywhere on their site.

I was having the issue that with a screen protector and the FP5 case, the case edge were at the same height as the screenprotector, so I didn’t provide that much protection.

I would like to know as well. Because I’m skeptical.

The dimensions on the current website are:

And in 2023 they were:

I just measured it myself, the height should be at least 12mm to raise taller than the screen protector. The weight is also 31 grams (I don’t have decimals on my scale).

So, I would say, no change has been made to the case. Unless someone has a recently purchased case and can confirm the edge raises above the screen protector?
