It should not be a Hardware issue. The device has suitable cameras, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, and a SoC that can handle it. It seems to really be a software limitation.
I found this online: āDespite being a modern device based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, the Fairphone 6 does not currently support Googleās Augmented Reality services (known as Google Play Services for AR or ARCore), mainly due to the lack of official certification from Google.ā
So itās not a āmissing hardware partā, but apparently itās just a missing certification. Appanrently itās been like this for years and Iām not sure why Fairphone is not pushing for this certification (maybe they are, then Iām wondering whatās blocking it).
Thats not for free and I guess the demand isnt high enough to go this road, however ask them directly.
I am a software developer who bought a FP6, and today while trying to deploy an AR app to my FP6, I was pretty disappointed when I had to find out that ARCore is not available ⦠This really is a bummer to me. I hope that the team gives out an official statement if they will ever support this feature, that I considered so much standard that I didnāt even bother to check when I bought my new daily driverā¦
maybe a too much unfair app ?
@all its important to contact FP directly to make them aware how many want this and to get a statement.
How would you contact them?
Mail to info@fairphone.com?
The support form online is not ideal I think.
Use the offiical ways they offer on their homepage
I am missing this functionality as well. I can understand that my last phone (FP3) didnāt support this, but the new gen.6⦠Iāve created a support ticket 3 weeks ago, but up until now no response at all. ![]()
Yeah, i just wanted to use a AR Magnetometer for Vectorfield View like i did on my Pixel 9a ⦠NOPE. ARCore not supported.
What a bummer. One more thing to add in the negative list.
Queing up a Pixel Phone again.
Hi all, it was really unexpected to read this chat and realize that FP did not include AR in its newest phone! I also have FP 6, and would need to use ARā¦
I suggest that everybody that wants ARCore support on the FP6 sends in a support request at Fairphone. Just like @yvmuell stated. I didnāt get any response on mine, yet. But if more and more people show interest, perhaps it sets Fairphone to action on this subject. It is (only) a matter of certification as far as I found out. When the FP6 gets on the certified list we are fine.
I wonder if that is more due to Google than Fairphone. Fairphone allows the installation of custom ROMs and is very open about it. That is also one of the reasons some people buy Fairphones. Why would Google certify a device that tries to go around it? So Iām not sure Fairphone can do anything about it but if course it doesnāt hurt to try.
If that is the case, it would be an easy answer from Fairphone, right?
Hello
I hope Fairphone will improve google services in Android 16, because when I walk on streets, I need LiveView to hunderstand many complicated streets. Is there any library for The fairphone (gen.6)? It is also strange finding a ToF sensor without 3D scanning possibilities. Why so?
Hi, welcome to the forum! There is a thread on this already: Google Play Service for AR on FP6 - #29 by TES
There has never been any word on this being worked on for any Fairphone. Your best bet is to message support to let them know there is a need for those features. If Fairphone sees there is enough demand, they might consider implementing it.
I merged the topics now.
The support ticket I raised in January was set to Solved without any comment or communication. So I created a follow up ticket asking them to give some feedback. Will post an update when I have one.
Hi,
I wanted to something similar and stumbled into the same problem. Did you write them/got any response?
