Google maps not not loading any maps

I recently upgraded to a fair phone 5 after several years using a fair phone 3. I can not get Google maps to find anything or load any maps image.

I have tried playing with the settings (it has location permission), I can’t seem to uninstall it in order to reinstall it

Any idea

So location in general is enabled? Did you test another Maps app?

You can deactivate GMaps and reactivate or just delete cache and storage.

Location seems to be working fine for other apps

And the other recommendation? Else try to deinstall all updates

Yes location is working fine. I tried disabling it and then re-enabling it but it is still the same

I was not talking about enabling/disabling location? So do we talk about the same? Deaktivating the App, was what I meant as deinstallation is not possible

Yes location is enabled. I tried a couple of other apps (Zipcar and tfl.go) which use location.

It was the app I disabled them turned back on again

Location is not required for Maps to function.

@Edwin_Love Have you deleted cache and storage as suggested by Yvmuell ?

Settings you should check:

  • Wi-Fi only (if you have no Wi-Fi connection then turn off this setting)

Could you maybe post a screenshot of the app?

Have you tried osmand ? I prefer #OpenStreetmap anyway :innocent:

Ah, I hadn’t noticed the comment about deleting cache and storage. How do I do this?

Settings > Apps > See all apps > Maps > Storage and cache > Clear cache | Clear storage

As you’ll have seen from the linked topic, some people needed to do this more than once, in combination with a Force stop and / or reboot.

I have tried this lots of times now and still getting a blank screen.

Could it possibly be to do with my google account? I have a very old one and if I am logged into a browser with it it won’t let me access maps, says my account does not allow it. However this has been the case for many years and it still worked fine on my Fairphone 3 (which was logged into that account)

I have been trying out OpenStreetmap and it’s kind of OK but the search is atrocious. For example I search for Edinburgh and have to scroll down a few pages worth to find the city and not Edinburgh street or similar

If you want something working similar to GMaps try out

Else I cant believe a Google Account can be too old, maybe some setting prohibiting the use of Maps? I dont have any Google Account added and GMaps works flawlessly.

I tried this one, kind of ok but once again the search was awful

OK, so I fixed it.

It was my google account, found out how to turn maps on (it is a workspace account but with only me as a user).

Thanks for all of the suggestions
