Gmail—blank pages etc

Two issues long-standing.:

  1. I open the app and am presented with a blank screen—no list of messages or anything. Sometimes it takes several open-close cycles until I get the mail list.
  2. If I have a mail message open, haviong got there from the mail list, clicking on the phone’s ‘back arrow’ somtimes minimises the app instead of sending me back to the mail list.

I have tried clearing the app’s cache to no avail.

I keep the phone up-to-date. The app is 2024.01.14.599541078 but this is, in any case, a longstanding issue.

As the app comes with the phone, I can’t try uninstalling and re-installing. Any ideas how to solve this annoyance?

I use it daily and I don’t observe any of these problems…
