Gluing ring around fingerprint sensor

I dropped my Fairphone 3, but luckily there was no real damage to the phone . However, the small ring around the fingerprint sensor seems to have come off (see attached image). Just wanted to ask if anyone had any advice on re-attaching (can i glue it back on? what kind of glue should I use? etc.)

Thanks!

Hi Just looking at mine, it seems just a tight fit. You could use two very small pieces of double sided sticky tape.

It is. In fact, when I put the ring in place and attach the back cover, it doesn’t move at all. Also, everything seems to work with the sensor so I’m not too concerned.

The question was more about what kind of adhesives would be OK to use to secure it in place. (I don’t want to fall out by accident if I ever need to take the back cover off for example)

I’ll give this a try, thanks :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:.

For this type of stuff, it’s best to use an adhesive that stays flexible, is a little more viscous so it doesn’t seep into the phone, and is more or less reversible (as in, it won’t dissolve the plastic to bond the parts) - which usually means a polyurethane glue. I use this plastic glue made by Pattex (I think it’s called Loctite in some other countries), but if you go to a hardware store and ask for a flexible/shock proof plastic glue for small repairs, you’ll probably be recommended something suitable. It’s not too expensive though not exactly cheap eather, but it’s very handy to have around the house.

Protip: deposit some glue on a plastic surface and pick some of it up with a toothpick, and use the toothpick to apply the glue to the phone. It’s much more precise than even the finest nozzle.
