The gallery app installed as default in the FP3 gives me a message that it won’t upgrade unless I take the pro (paying) version. What alternatives do you suggest to visualise, classify and modify pictures?

the FP3 has no preinstalled dedicated gallery app. What it the precise name of the app that you’re talking about?
The FP3 comes with Google Photos, which has no pro / paid version. You might want to try Simple Gallery as an alternative. The lightweight Gallery Go from Google might also be worth checking out, if you are not anti-Google.
Otherwise, just search for “gallery” in the Play Store or app store of your choice.
