Hey guys!
I just got my FP6 with the official Android 15 build preinstalled and was pleasantry surprised to find some taste- and useful additions to the stock AOSP system (e.g. set a max charge percentage). Since I have been already mostly Google-free for 5+ years now using Custom ROMs with microG, I decided to give the official /e/OS build a try, which was pretty easy after following the (also amazingly simple) bootloader unlocking process.
However, although I like the idea of a out-of-the-box Android distribution with built-in privacy awareness, I noticed that a lot of the previously discovered features of a modern smartphone were gone. Here’s a short list after only a couple of minutes of playing around in the settings menu:
- Double tap to wake/sleep (real bummer, have been using that for 8+ years now)
- Face unlock (insecure, I know, but kinda convenient)
- Battery charging threshold/current (might be retrofit-able with root access)
- Camera app (replaced by OpenCamera, which is probably not utilizing all of the sensor’s potential)
- …
Are these simply known limitations to /e/OS, which is also available preinstalled on the FP6 alternatively to the regular Android build with Google Apps? Or is this simply the result of the model still being quite new and there are future plans to integrate these modifications to the official /e/OS device repository? I’ve been using nothing but LineageOS/crDroid on my previous phones and the maintainers there were always quite eager to backport the vendor exclusive features/apps into their open source based builds.
Thank you and best regards!
