Is there something in the pipeline or are other OOS recommended and not to wait for fp2 with android9 FPOOS?
FPOOS based on android 9 is currently in beta.
As an alternative you might consider /e/OS (currently based on Android 10).

The FPOOS beta is already tagged as release candidate, I do believe it won’t be longer than a month before its release.
Although I do recommend using a custom ROM like /e/OS or LineageOS.

FYI: If you used FPOOS and did install microG, because you want to use an Android without Google, there’s also a LineageOS for microG
