I hope it’s not either me being clueless or an app I have installed messing things up, but I am seeing some strange behaviour on my FP6. This happened with both 23.0 and 23.1.
I’ve set the yellow switch to activate the Priority Only profile when up and the Normal profile when down. When I have it in Normal mode, and I activate Do Not Disturb mode (or Sleeping mode, for that matter, same behaviour), and then lock the screen, sometimes (unfortunately not every time and I’m not sure what causes it), within a few seconds I randomly get vibrations from the phone as if notifications are coming, even if nothing has happened, sometimes many in succession. When that happens, it turns off Do Not Disturb mode.
The only way to keep DND active is to have the yellow switch set to anything but the Normal profile (I’ve also tried with Normal & Silent, DND stays on in Silent as well, just not Normal).
Is this expected? Am I using it wrong? What are the random vibrations?
I tried figuring it out myself via adb logcat but I couldn’t see any patterns (there was too much log spam).
Oh also, an issue I noticed immediately on 23.1: I can’t affect how the battery appears on the Status Bar at all. It appears as a horizontal icon with no text, while the setting is set to text inside the icon. I tried changing the icon too, and nothing happened.
One more issue from me: after updating OTA from 23.0 with MindTheGapps, Play Store doesn’t work. It won’t start and I constantly get “Google Play Store keeps stopping” pop-ups even when in other apps. Unsure whether it’s the same issue reported by @Erisa above.
I’m considering switching active slot to go back to 23.0 for the moment, everything worked there!
I think it’s a different symptom of the same problem. When installing fresh, the apps simply aren’t there when you boot. When upgrading, the apps that were previously installed break and can’t be recovered by reflashing MindTheGapps.
Hm, I tried switching active slot to go back to 23.0, and unfortunately it wouldn’t boot.
So now I just want to make sure: if I reinstall 23.0 from scratch, including MindTheGapps, it shouldn’t brick the phone if I don’t relock the bootloader, correct? Asking because I have 23.1 installed, which has a newer SPL than 23.0.
Lineage builds don’t update the date used by rollback protection, you’ll be fine. It’s only newer stock builds that cause issues. Don’t relock the bootloader though.
This unfortunately makes sense, when you booted far enough into 23.1 it would have made changes to the userdata partition which aren’t backwards compatible with 23.0. Android doesn’t support downgrades without clearing data.
Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to work! The installation of 23.0 failed with an error because of SPL downgrade! Is there a way to resolve or bypass that so I can install 23.0 again? Otherwise I suppose I’m stuck with a phone where quite a lot doesn’t work at the moment (Play store, Google calendar, Google Maps etc).
Hello, thank you for making the effort. I could install LineageOS 23.1 without any problems, but I am unable to get any gapps to work. I tried mindthegapps, Nikgapps and Bitgapps. I sideloaded them via adb in recovery before booting into lineage for the first time. The installation seems to be successful, however there is no sign of them in LineageOS. Could you help?
It’s the same issue I ran into and Erisa reported above. Personally I have found no solution yet even though I’ve tried several things. I have also tried going back to 23.0 but haven’t managed to, as I wrote above. If you find a solution I’d love to hear it, otherwise the only option is to wait for MindTheGapps or similar to release a compatible version (or perhaps for LineageOS to release a version that works with the latest released MindTheGapps or similar?).
I got it to work again: I just booted into fastboot mode again, used fastboot flash recovery to flash the los 23 recovery (if it is not working try another usb cable/port), then i directly booted into the recovery and installed los 23 and nikgapps from there.
@ArianK16a Just a quick info: On LOS 23 the fastboot mode still uses version 121, Fairphone has not enabled fastboot boot on this version yet which makes it not possible to install magisk root. It was added here in 148, see Ways to root the FP6 (while [fastboot boot] is not available - #119 by lucaweiss . I do not know which version 23.1 uses and I also do not know how difficult an update would be. One can still root with Apatch.
Sorry, I really thought that it would work. Did you try clearing userdata first? And if that still doesn’t work, try flashing boot.img/recovery.img from an old build and try to flash with that? It may be only because of using the new recovery to flash an old rom?
Failing all of those, are you able to flash stock ROM and start again from there?
Thank you! Right now I’m away from my computer and have found a temporary solution (carrying two phones ), but I will definitely try all that when I’m back. I believe flashing an older recovery should do the trick, as Jonas also confirms above! Thanks again for the response.
I’ve reported the same above, and later noticed that someone reported the same behaviour in the 22.2 thread, and was advised to set the slider to None on both up and down positions, if I recall. So essentially this is a known issue with a workaround.
