Genau das scheint Android Auto zu tun: einen Videostream (komprimiert) übertragen. Die theoretische Bandbreite von USB2 könnte dafür evtl. sogar reichen, aber wie weit die konkrete technische Realisierung die Spezifikation erfüllt, ist ja nochmal was anderes.
There is a world beyond desktop mode, like emulated linuxes in fullscreen, remote protocols (rdp,vnc,nx,…), and even watching your streaming provider on a bigger screen when not at home.
Especially when the phone costs as much as a laptop!
The same. It feels both a bit rushed and also more expensive than the new CEO’s stated intention in interviews. I hope it is not a ‘last great cash cow’ to fund a mid-range, more affordable FP7?
It’s a bit of a sidetrack, this discussion on Android Auto, but I have an FP3 and use it with Android Auto. Any speed issues seem to come from the FP being too busy with other things in the background, not from the USB bandwidth. Often, USB is not even needed, it can work through Bluetooth as well. So, the FP6 will probably worth just fine with AA.
Geen desktop modus, dan geen Fairphone 6 voor mij. Ik gebruik mijn Fairphone 4 veel in desktop modus. Zeer tevreden over. Is voor mij 1 van de prioriteit 1 vereisten.
I have a FP6 (after a FP4) and I used Android Auto for these 3 last days with no issues
1+ but… It’s good as long as current device works correctly.
I started research just because my current phone probably will die in near future (already 5 years old and some problems like random reboots, freezes, not turning on screen, are becoming more and more frequent). So there was rare chance to get something outside the mainstream, get something with long support, easier access to original spare parts, with decent spec, but now I have an even harder choice, because any single device does not meet all requirements (almost all smartphones are freaking huge and stripped to bare minimum just to meet some common requirements of average user) and now there is not even easy way to choose between FP5 and FP6. 
This is a very long thread where people talk about spec sheets. But has anyone tried to connect a FP6 to a USB C monitor yet?
USB 2.0 cannot fast charge with 30 watts, but the FP6 can. So I suspect it doesn’t have USB 2.0. Let’s just see if it works with a monitor?

It’s not even my question. Spec declaration was correct from beginning and this topic was created just by moving some comments from general thread about the new FP6.
Indeed, the comment marked as “solved” addresses only the USB 2.0 question, which is not the question in the title and top post.
If that has to be the marked solution comment, then at least edit the comment to include my screenshot that also addressses the desktop mode question.
The “solution post” is linking to the most up to date FAQs and beside that, already before 2 people who joined the launch event confirmed its USB-2 and with this no desktop mode

Is not answered there directly. At least I would find it confusing to see an answer marked about something else. But I’m not the moderator of course. If you think this is best, then so be it.
Maybe mark that then as a solution?
Or maybe we can change the topic to something more matching this thread, something like “[Fairphone6] General talk about stripped out USB3 and external display support”. 
I can understand the ‘make it smaller’ group. The phones are getting ridicously big. I’m still using my 8" tablet as e-reader and I’m surely missing my 5.5" phone.
I switched to the Samsung A13 (6.6") after my Nokia 6.1 (5.5") got some issues with GPS. I just checked the specs and apart from memory (128/6 vs 64/4) and camera (50MP vs 18) 5 years advancement made the phone only a lot bigger and… slower (Loads of bloatware, as there is no Lineage for the A13 and only 32 bit OS).
For me, at the moment, the fp6 is due to it’s size and long support, the only option, when I want to buy a new phone. Alas, budget is a challenge now, so to be honest, I’m thinking of dusting off my Nokia and using it again as phone.
For some strange reason I think that a phone is primarily for communicating on the go, which, in my case, requires you to be able to hold it.
At least the FP(gen6) is getting release in the USA (according to FAQ’s).
The chip is (imho) not “already old”. It was released Q3/24. I think it is hard for FP to get a newer chip in general and given that they want an extended time of support from Qualcomm it is even more difficult to get a chip that was release just yesterday.
Not sure what is going wrong with your phone/battery. But I have just ordered my first replacement battery for my 3 year old FP4. And my “old” batter is not even dead yet, its just a little degraded and does not perform good in very cold or hot environments.
I think most of the phones on the market doesn’t have a battery that holds for more than 1.5 days of normal usage.
FP4 “desktop mode” is just a mirroring of Android (if you use stock android) and I don’t consider it as useful at all. 
Maybe if we ever get A16, i will consider using REAL desktop mode more often (as I already have a docking station for homeoffice at home).
I used Samsung DeX a few times back then when they introduced it. I have to admit that this was a premium feature that was ahead of its time. If something like this comes with A16, it will certainly be used by a few people. But as it was written before, the mainstream users will (probably) not use it at all.
That looks pretty slick and halfway on the path to a real desktop experience.
Barring yourself from this and its future by buying an USB 2 phone is quite a holdpack and probably a huge regret of future me.
IMHO there should be a prominent warning on the store page that the FP6 does not support USB 3, it’s a clear antifeature customers should be made aware of or we’ll see tons of surprised users in the future that would take these features for granted and wonder why they won’t work. That’s some explaining I won’t want to do.
