FP6 can't turn off autocorrect/spellchecker for whatsapp

As the title suggests I cant find a way to turn off the automatic spelling correction on whatsapp.

I have turned off the spellchecker in the settings and it seems to be off for all other apps, except whatsapp.

My phone is currently on the /e/OS 3.0.4-a15-20250708507307-official-FP6
Whatsapp is version 2.25.19.83

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum

Have you restarted the phone? I agree this shouldn’t be necessary, but worth a try.

Which keyboard and spell checker are you using?

P.S. - It’s also worth asking (or better maybe) over at the /e/OS Murena community forum.

I have restarted the phone multiple times, but no change.

I was using the default keyboard and turned off the spellchecker in the settings.

In the end I found a workaround by using the Gboard keyboard, that seems to have worked.
But for the default keyboard still won’t turn off.

Best thing for you to do is to contact Murena support. Did you look at their forum to see whether the problem is mentioned?

I have the Android version, but I had the same problem.
What worked for me: go to a WhatsApp conversation and start typing. As soon as the keyboard appears, it has a little cogwheel at the top, in the row of microphone, colour palette, etc (on my phone above the letter ‘u’).
Tap that, and it will give you all kinds of options, including actually switching off autocorrect.

I hope this works on e/OS too

What’s strange, is that the cogged wheel opens Gboard settings, not WhatsApp settings …
Glad that it worked for you, anyway.

Kdude is / was using the system default kb on /e/OS.

The issue with the default kb on /e/OS is that it doesnt have the cogwheel to go to the keyboard settings.

Gboard fortunately does, so I used that to eventually turn it off.

Tap & hold:, to open the settings.

I always recommend FUTO Keyboard as an alternative, it’s open source and has a similar feature-set as gboard.
