FP6 - Battery went to 100% (it's set to 80%) why?

Hello dear fairphone lovers :waving_hand:

Does anyone knows why my Fairphone 6 last night (night to monday) went to 100% even though battery protection was on and set to only charge to 80% ? :battery:

It’s the first time it does this, but can’t really find the reason why it decided to do so?

Best regards

Hello Burfelt,
welcome to the community forum!

Maybe because the phone was turned off? The 80% limit can only work if the phone is running

Hello janweiss

It’s was on, with the charger plugged in over night :+1:

Okay then this wasn’t the issue.
One more thing from my FP5 experience (don’t own a FP6): I have to set the slow charging (eco mode) before plugging in the phone. Not sure if that applies for the charging limit, as well. Did you set the limit only after plugging in?

Could it perhaps be that the battery management software is still a bit buggy? I mean there’s another discussion, about battery and their setting:

Everything was set to add the best protection of the battery. (Eco-charging + 80%)
But maybe it just was a bug - just seems a bit odd that it suddenly choose to charge it to 100%

True that. Just give it another go an let us know how it went. If it repeats, you should contactsupport (fastest via live chat) though additionally, as support is not available in the users forum.

Maybe - but at the same time the disappearing battery indication is the same on the Fairphone 5, and the charging lock at 80% works. I would also find a one-time hick-up the most likely case, as no other similar reports

I’m yet to get a Fairphone, waiting for my pixel 6a to finally die.

For me limit 80% states:
To help extend battery lifespan, your phone will only charge to 80% battery. Your phone will charge to 100% once every one to two weeks to maintain battery level reporting accuracy.

Could that be the case here? Battery calibration?

I can confirm that. My second phone is a pixel, and approximately one in a month, the charge goes up to 100%.

Thank you so much for the answer!.. This seems like it.. It didn’t exceed 80% last night - so guess you’re right on this one  :+1:

Specifically, it can only work if the software that implements the limit is running.
Even if you turn off the phone before charging, it will boot a basic system. The code could have been implemented there but seemingly wasn’t and thus requires Android.

My laptop pc limits charging even when “turned off”.

The only time I’ve had this issue is when the phone was charging during the installation of the FP6.QREL.15.148.0 update. Never before, never after that time.
