🇩🇪 🇬🇧 FP4 Sudden Death

Hallo Leute,

Hi everyone,

My Fairphone suddenly turned off a few weeks ago at 3-4% battery and hasn’t turned back on since. At first, I thought the battery was dead and bought a new one. Unfortunately, that didn’t help.

I’ve been in contact with support since day one – but it seems there won’t be any warranty coverage since I bought it 2.5 years ago from a reseller.

Are there repair shops that don’t just randomly swap out all the modules? Because I ###!!%% don’t have a backup, as I was also messing around with my NAS at the same time…
What options do I have? Which modules might make sense to replace?

Welcome to the community forum.

In a case like this I would start by removing all the modules, then clean all contacts including those of the battery compartment.
Use cotton buds and high-grade 90° surgical alcohol or isopropanol.

Leave to dry for several hours, then reassemble carefully. Make sure all connectors fit properly.

Be careful not to strip the screws. It’s worth getting a good quality Phillips #00 screwdriver if you don’t already have one. To remove the modules you shouldn’t need to remove any black screws if I remember correctly, only silver ones. The black Phillips screws round the sides are for the screen, remove that later if necessary.

You shouldn’t need to remove the three black Torx screws of the processor shield.
