Hello there,
I just wanted to add a reply to this topic; it is a bit of a vent, but I wanted to share my thoughts and ask a few questions.
It is crazy to me that such an impactful issue remains unsolved as of today. Even if it is a complicated matter, it should have been fixed by now, because it should have been assigned high priority.
I cannot stress how stupidly frustrating the issue is: having reloads every time you dared to switch between two apps, or having your music app killed while listening to it. Imagine having your GPS shut down while you’re driving… Navigating the phone has just become a huge pain overall.
What’s the point of having easily repairable hardware if the software breaks anyway?
I’m sure Fairphone is aware of this problem, hence the presence of e/os/ now. But then why would you deploy Android 15 without thoroughly testing it? (Android being notorious for having such backward compatibility issues)
There are many possible answers, but none of them are good ones. This just created a big trust issue on my side regarding the brand. After 4 1/2 years my phone has become slow and unreliable. I could have bought a cheaper phone with better specs, and it would have lasted me just as long.
So now what? Should I buy a new phone? (from a different brand or give FP a second chance?) Or wait for Fairphone to finally solve the issue someday maybe? Alternatively, I could put in the effort and root the phone, but I had not planned on investing my time and effort in that (plus it comes with all sorts of inconveniences too). I’d appreciate knowing how others are dealing with this.
Has anyone received a recent update from Fairphone about this? If so, please let me know.
In any case, I will soon directly contact them. Hopefully they’ll provide a genuine answer rather than some generic brush-off.
