What do you mean you flashed your phone using fastboot? What did you do exactly? Which guide did you follow?
Also, TWRP does work, you just have to know how to use it. Just temporarily boot into it using fastboot boot twrp.img (replace twrp.img with the actual name). Installing it is more tricky indeed.
