FP3 screen Air bubble?

Hi Everyone,
I am a happy owner of a FP3 since 2020. I have had little to no hardware issues until recently. I must disclose that I am an incredibly clumsy person and that my phone falls to the floor a minimum of once a week.
I have noted though that the screen has started to show something like a detatchment or an air bubble which keeps on espanding.

Any idea what this might be?

Not really, but it looks a lot like my own FP3.
It’s having this for at least 2 years now, but it doesn’t have any impact on the phone’s functionality.

@Martina_M
If it gets worse and you need a replacement just ask upon the forum as still some used screens around.

I have the same. it’s getting gradually worse with each fall but it’s hanging tight so far. We may be on the clock but it’s been years so…

I’m really surprised, what you are doing with your phones so they are falling on the floor on a regular basis .

Yes my FP4 falls down at least once a day. Just an hour ago the last time. Never ever happened with my FP3 (but back then I had at least a bumper protecting it and decreasing the probability of falling down due to higher friction). Besides my clumsiness I blame the bigger size and the heavier weight of the FP4 but also those redicoulsly small trouser and jacket pockets which apparently keep on shrinking.

Back to topic. Naturally I never experienced any screen issues with my FP3. It’s still working fine up until now.

Fun fact: I’m using it for 2 years now and only a couple of weeks ago I got my very first crack and it remained the only one so far.

Hey there,

luckily my screen doesn’t look like that (so far) but I did disamble a few FP3 and this is my observation about heavily used screens like in the picture:

The front glas of the display unit holds to the frame of the screen with a black, flexible adhesive band. If the glue from that band doesn’t hold the pieces together anymore, these narrow, straight (mostly horizontal) lines get visible.
Initially this is only a cosmetic problem but can lead to the screen itself getting lose from the frame on one corner or on one side. Once that happens the screen is obviously more sensitive to humidity, dust can also gather around. If a noticeable gap is visible, I would recommend to glue it with T7000 glue which is black and mostly comes in tubes with a really thin opening.

Best regards

Since I don’t see it mentioned so far:
The Fairphone shop has the display module in stock currently … Fairphone 3 Display - Replace your screen easily | Fairphone

But if you can live with it or repair it somehow, should the need arise, all the better for the environment.
