Fairphone OS 19.05.3 is now available. You can get it through the Updater.

Changelog

Issues fixed since the previous Android 7 maintenance release (Fairphone OS 19.02.1).

Please report any (new) issues through the bugtracker and upvote existing issues if you are affected. As usual, please specify the steps to reproduce, and provide as many details as possible.

Updating for me was smooth sailing as usual. Thanks, very pleased to see the H264 hw decoding regression fix!

Worked normally, via the fairphone updater. Updates from Fairphone OS 2019.02.1 to 2019.05.3 normally. During the bootloader of the upgrader (or whatever the tech term for that stage is) there was a red line telling about lacking /system partition or something, but it checked the signature of the zip and all lines looked rather normal after that in that logging screen. Booted up fine into 2019.05.3

Hey,

Big issue when uploading my phone, it seems like I have the Open OS menu with setting and options I don’t understand… I’m quite lost about this and rebooting or displacing the battery doesn’t change a thing… Help :stuck_out_tongue:

That issue has been reported a couple of times. Do you have an SD card? If yes please use it to retrieve the update log as suggested in this topic:

Since Android 7 Fairphone OS just has the same recovery program as Fairphone Open OS.
It is called Team Win Recovery Project or, more commonly, TWRP.

Tapping the middle “home” icon at the bottom always brings you back to the main menu.
Tapping the list-like icon to the right displays the console. Can you see any error messages there (or post a photo)?

I got this after installing the update and clicking on the reboot button. I dont know how to proceed from there. Anyone with some advice?

The problem seems to be the failed Zip signature verification.

Since I use LineageOS and more current TWRP versions from twrp.me, I can’t pinpoint what specifically is going on here.

“Zip signature verification failed!” is known to happen if you try to install something other than one of Fairphone’s OSes with their TWRP 3.1.1-0.
Solution would be to install a more current community TWRP … Fairphone 2 … but you are not trying to install something other than one of Fairphone’s OSes.

“Zip signature verification failed!” is more trivially caused by “Zip signature verification” being enabled in TWRP’s Settings (you can get there from the main menu).
But I just booted Fairphone’s TWRP 3.1.1-0, and this setting doesn’t seem to be enabled by default.

In my understanding TWRP can only verify Zip signatures of signed Zips it has the proper signature key to.
As I would suppose Fairphone’s update Zips would be properly signed, and as I would suppose Fairphone’s own TWRP would have Fairphone’s signature keys … I don’t know what exactly fails here.

If it was me, I would boot a signed, more current TWRP image without flashing it to the phone … see twrpwoflashing … and try to install the update file with that … “Install” in TWRP’s main menu, then navigate to /cache by tapping “(Up A Level)” and “cache”, and hope fp_update_gms_whatever.zip is still there to select.

But then again I’m a tinker kid with a backup of my data, and perhaps contactsupport is a better idea, they certainly know their own stuff better than me :slight_smile: .

@Pons, maybe a bit more practical help. I think it is just a failed/corrupted download. If rebooting does not bring you back to a working phone (allowing you to download again), try a manual install of the OS: https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/207914363-Manually-install-Fairphone-OS-for-the-Fairphone-2

Very good. I just now read “The user data will not be erased.”
I thought manual installs would wipe the phone. Learned something again :slight_smile: .

They only have the 19.02.1 version in the manual install page
