That‘s because you are using the wrong cable. It‘s an AV cable, probably made for a camcorder.
Just use a standard audio cable 3,5 mm jack to two RCA plugs.

Yes, this adaptor cable does the same job a common audio cable will do in regard to the plug. Although I did not knew that such adaptor cables exist, why didn’t you explain before?

I had a A/V cable that came with a Nokia N900 and it worked for audio by shorting the yellow (video) RCA connector with tin foil or a bent paper clip.
I shoudn’t be dangerous; you may insulate the yellow RCA connector on top of the short for added safety.
