[Found] Looking for a working FP2 (or are least a working motherboard)

Hi !

I still have my brave old FP2 functioning, except it reboots randomly and big applications crash often when loading.

I suspect the RAM being defective.
I would like to give another chance to this device which has all its other modules working fine.

Anyone having a forgotten FP2 somewhere ?
It could be that the screen or other modules are broken. It’s fine for me as long as the motherboard is ok.
Or maybe just a motherboard ?

I would pay the shipping fees to send it to France and some extra euros for your time if you wish

You can answer here or by private message (PM).

Thank you in advance !
Yann

I assume you already went through the full process of factory reset to verify if it then operates stable?

My old FP2 operates well so far with e/OS/. But some quirky cache remains or configuration/data fragments (e.g. after an update) may cause system instabilities.

Finding a fully operational FP2 core module for which one could confidently prove a flawless state these days isn’t easy. I couldn’t for mine also it generally works fine.

I think after having went through a factory reset without positive outcome maybe hardware replacement could/should be next. All software would have to be installed and setup again anyway be it FR or hardware replacement.
Clearing software/app caches and/or storage(full app reset) things can look much different.

Just shortly my FP2 occasionally started to freeze when the alarm went of.
I could just get wake to watch the alarm animation and fumble out the battery as no other input or button press was accepted. No chance to snooze or quit the alarm otherwise.
Clearing the clock apps cache didn’t help, clearing its storage some days later to fully reconfigure it DID help.
Works fine again, also input for snoozing and quitting. No more freezing ever since. My last thought this could help.

Anyway good luck should you FR the device or with finding a replacement core module if necessary.

Thank you Patrick for your advices.

Indeed I did two factory resets and it didn’t change anything to the problem of intempestive reboots.

I even sent it to the official repair service certified by Fairphone for french consumers. They couldn’t reproduce the problem…
I guess they didn’t try very hard, just switching the device on for 10 minutes is obviously not enough to see the reboot happen.
What I understand is that they didn’t want to observe the device for a long period.
So as a side note here: I do not recommend the french repair service of Fairphone :frowning:

Actually the reboot problem is a very old problem that appeared about two years after I bought the device in 2017.
At the beginning it was rare (like once a month or a week at max), and it got more and more frequent.
Now it can reboot several times per day, whatever the use.
It can be during a call, using an app or just doing nothing, laying on the table with the screen off.
At this point it is unusable for me.

They is why I hope for finding a replacement mother board

I may have an FP2 for you but I’d like to test it first if everything (or at least the motherboard) is still working. It may take a few days to find the time to do so.

Yay! This is a great news
Please take the time you need, it’s been years since I live with its problems, so I can wait a few more days^^

I just installed the latest version of DivestOS on the FP2 and it seems to work well. The only thing I noticed was that the touchscreen doesn’t always react while charging the battery. Detaching the charging cable made the touchscreen working again.

So, yes, I can send you the phone. Do you want me to install another OS on the phone before sending it to you or are you fine with DivestOS?

Also please tell me your shipping address by private message

Nice, thank you for testing it
I also experienced the problem of the touchscreen not reacting properly when the phone is charging.

I am used to the Official Fairphone OS with the Google services to be able to synchronize and backup data easily. I know that I trade my privacy in exchange for their services, I am considering changing it, but I’m not ready yet…^^
Are you ok to install the Fairphone OS? I would be more at ease with it, although I know that it is no longer supported.

I installed the latest Fairphone 2 OS release and sent the package today. More details by PM.

A known behavior when using FP2 with “some” chargers. Not really a fault, but speaks for a general design that could have taken some improvement for more compatibility on “both ends”.
