Files by Google opening pdf itself not Adobe Reader

Am i correct in saying Files would open my PDF files in Adobe Reader in the past. Well it doesn’t now. I have tried various things such as “Open With…” but i don’t get the option to Always or just once. I have played around with settings. One setting would be App Info of Files to have clear defaults but there isn’t one.
I have uninstalled updates for Files by Google - , still no change.

Something weird has happened i looked at all apps and saw app before Files by Google called Files grey folder in blue circle i think that’s what was originally there for file explorer. If i remember i thought the icon changed in an update.

Any advice to make PDF files open in default Adobe Reader. Or perhaps bring back the original file explorer or recommend a file explorer that allows more control.

Future Thanks.

Try to go into adobe reader’s app-info and tap “open by default”. There should be options to link pdf’s to AR.

I use the file manager from Fossify and Ghost Commander and another PDF viewer and had no issues to define to always use the PDF viewer. The Fossify File Manager is simple and good.

By the way i have installed Total Commander a file manager. Its a bit geeky/techie. I have set the apps for pdf and others. So will be using that for now. Has a text editor and things. I am still be interested a solution.

I also went to all apps after i posted my post and Reset All Preferences (top right). No change to Files by Google.

Thanks. May look into those file managers you mentioned at some point in the future.

Deactivate the Google App.

Ghost Commander is a open source fork of Total Commander.

Did you tap on “4 verified links” to enable those 4 links? This should do the trick, doesn’t matter what file manager you use.

Yes. And also disabled it.

Can’t see Ghost Commander in Google play but see Fossify file manager.

Hi

yes this is changed in the Android software already so time ago, i still struggling with it.
not longer possible to clear this setting like before.

Please dubbel check which app opens now when selecting a PDF.

go to settings → apps → all apps → Files by Google → open by default → clear default preferences.

you can turn of “open supported links” but that shouldn’t be necessary, and could cause other problems.

go to settings → apps → all apps → Files by Google → middel big button on top “turn on”.

check:

if files is displayed as installed and fully updated.

if you still have isues after restarting your phone
in this same setting menu you can go to storage and remove cache and data.

check updates again.

i hope this helps.

greetings

Tom

What do you mean with this? The question still is avaialble when you have more than one App installed that potentially could open the file and you have not selected always before.

Else this might be connected to the Google Files App which I dont use. Means Google might want to force you to use the Google PDF viewer etc…

Hi @yvmuell

sorry that it wasn’t clear,
I did not mean the popup, i meant the way to reset if the wrong app was selected.

surprisingly files by google doesn’t do that, not for me at least.

I think it is a wrong setting or error in the fills app that is causing this problem for Phoney.

I’m using filles by google als gallery and fille manager and i use M365 as PDF viewer, i do not have this issue.
