Fairphones sold 2013-2024

, , , ,

I can only speculate it’s an outdated number, although even the all-time total from a year ago (516,437) differs from it. The sole difference between my graph and Fairphone’s Impact Report 2023 (page 15) numbers is the 2018 total (mine is 89 devices higher than theirs) – way smaller than the 516 K vs. 506 K difference.

It’s probably a marketing number, meaning an approximative-but-realistic-looking number they throw out to dazzle the public…
It doesn’t need to be real, as long as it looks real (due to its perceived precision: It’s 506176 users, not 506175 or 506177…).

Oh well, “overenthusiastic” marketing statements are customary for Fairphone…

I have just realised that @urs_lesse mentioned including devices sold to resellers as sold, which does not have to be included in the proper number of Fairphone users.

Plus the FP team has access to the number of people using my Fairphone App, especially those registered for the keep club ( I remember vaguely it’s only foe FP OS and obviously not everyone registered for free goodies but still)

In the impact report they mention yet another figure, 400 thousands or so.

It’s always intriguing when you work with datasets and realise they can’t match or be compared cause people talk about different versions of the same concept

Hello!
Do you have any idea of the proportion sold between 128/6Gb and 256/8Gb FP4 ?
If the “light” one was sold more, it could explain they went the same way for FP5

Would you mind helping me finding those (current) numbers (from Fairphone not guestimated by the FP community).

Now and then Fairphone do feel like sharing some approximate numbers but it’s far away from offering a solid and frequent transparency (sales) report with all the exact numbers… do you have more insight?

I’m looking for something like

2020 FP1: 0 FP2: 0 FP3: 4757 FP4: 765 FP5: 0 FBXL : 0 …
2021 FP1: …

I think others might be interested too. Maybe there is already a thread pointing to realistic (not approximate marketing) numbers but I couldn’t find it yet.

…is a good start though for anyone who’s generally interested (then again brought to you by the community and sadly not by Fairphone directly). Albeit not really showing ever so rising numbers which you mentioned. More like stagnating at 90.000 FP units per year…

Numbers posted (sure only for phones not all devices thus not all Customer) in the topic you linked are as far as I understand based on FPs impact reports (which is not marketing in my eyes), thus FPs numbers and not community estimates. Still I see increasing numbers ,as discussed in the other topic as well, e.g. when the industry numbers decreased FP numbers increased. Overall this was completely off-topic in the A14 topic, thus I moved it here.

Updated the first post with the number from today’s Impact Report 2024 (p. 18). As far as I could see there is no breakdown into FP5 and FP4 units sold anywhere in the full PDF report (4.6 MB) nor in the highlights. Feel free to let us all know if you are more successful in finding these.

Thanks!
Same here, couldn’t find it (yet?). Perhaps we will get more lucky with the investor report.

But as the report was prepared by @Ioiana_Luncheon , perhaps we could get the numbers crunched?

The question is if this number even differentiates between Fairphones and Fairbuds.

Page 58 seems to imply that they consider the Fairbuds XL to be a “device”.

I’m a little puzzled that it seems to have plateaued over the last couple of years because the Five seems to be the best manifestation of the vision so far, with its long support SoC and all.

I expect next years figures will tell a different story as people distance themselves more from the IT mega corps.

The target for 2025 is 126 000 (p.11). However in 2023 I believe they did not meet their target so I am not sure how much to read into that

The number above 103.053 is only for sold phones see page 18

The 2023 target was 170000, so 126000 seems a bit more realistic to meet (assuming FP6 will come this year)

Edit: as per report for 2022 target was 235000 for 2023 (2022 target 168000)

It feels like they need a new device to manage that.

Or a lot more marketing🙃

More marketing, less customer service and they will have their 120k sold devices in no time, I’m sure.
