I can only speculate it’s an outdated number, although even the all-time total from a year ago (516,437) differs from it. The sole difference between my graph and Fairphone’s Impact Report 2023 (page 15) numbers is the 2018 total (mine is 89 devices higher than theirs) – way smaller than the 516 K vs. 506 K difference.
It’s probably a marketing number, meaning an approximative-but-realistic-looking number they throw out to dazzle the public…
It doesn’t need to be real, as long as it looks real (due to its perceived precision: It’s 506176 users, not 506175 or 506177…).
Oh well, “overenthusiastic” marketing statements are customary for Fairphone…
I have just realised that @urs_lesse mentioned including devices sold to resellers as sold, which does not have to be included in the proper number of Fairphone users.
Plus the FP team has access to the number of people using my Fairphone App, especially those registered for the keep club ( I remember vaguely it’s only foe FP OS and obviously not everyone registered for free goodies but still)
In the impact report they mention yet another figure, 400 thousands or so.
It’s always intriguing when you work with datasets and realise they can’t match or be compared cause people talk about different versions of the same concept
Hello!
Do you have any idea of the proportion sold between 128/6Gb and 256/8Gb FP4 ?
If the “light” one was sold more, it could explain they went the same way for FP5
