for me, thankfully, fairphone goes well and truly beyond ticking all my non-jack boxes. it has been quite a delight having a fairphpne 4 for most of the past 4 years. but there are just too many issues with not having a jack, it’s gotten to the point i’ve just had to abandon the precious headphones for nearly 2 years now.
which is very depressing with music and quality audio reproduction and just sound overall being among my greatest joys!
a jack is now a must for future, especially as the time to get a new phone approaches ever closer.
i had been eyeing up/mulling over (& putting extra effort to saving up for) an xperia the last week or so. before your comment it seemed possibly the best (albeit pricey!!) choice. but this ivalo xe does seem quite intriguing, thank you very much! quite valuable to have more options to consider.
had a good laugh they felt the need to test for ip69k and not just ip68; hard pressed to think of any real-life scenario where that’d be relevant, but sure why not
will be reaching out to devs for two questions: max microsd capacity support, and if the front camera is replaceable (the latter of which i can’t explain why it’s helpful but it is helpful still). will post answers here for anyone interested
also for anyone looking into the teracube 2s mentioned above and shares my need for a larger microsd, it’s max supported size is 256gb so a tad underwhelming
okay an update from chat with support. it has no sd support for security reasons. expected to be available directly within AU before the turn of the year.
but when asking about the replaceability of any parts, i was directed to a more specialized link. the conversation was something along the lines of:
“the ivalo xe is not available for purchase by the general public (at least not directly from them?), please visit this link (which requires details like organization, job position, etc.) where you can contact our team dedicated to matters of this product”
basically it’s a phone designs for military/defense/etc., so they need to be a lil tight lipped.
this was all quite unexpected. might not be able to go for it after all.
I got a new Vodafone eSIM for my FP5 and turned on Wi-Fi Calling. When I called a 1300 number it said it was not available because I was overseas. I suspect all my calls via Wi-Fi would be charged as if I was roaming overseas!
I suspect it shows as being from Ireland (where I got the phone from) or the Netherlands.
Typically, with Wi-Fi calling you just need to take care if you’re abroad as connecting via Wi-Fi is like being at home while connecting via the mobile network is not. That may have an impact on the rates.
Has anyone had recent success in getting a new FP4 battery shipped to Australia? We used to go through Clove in the UK but they no longer have the FP4 batteries. Am waiting on a response from Reichelt Electronik as they appear to ship to AU.
Further to my last post the company I approached in Germany cannot ship FP4 batteries to Australia.
I’m now stuck for a solution. We purchased 3x FP4 at the same time and now their batteries are failing. If I can’t find a replacement battery it looks like our phones are heading for recycling.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
We went with these phones because of their ethical background and longevity. A key rationale was the ability to replace the parts when needed but those parts, whilst available in Europe, aren’t available here.
In the past I would have recommended vireo in Germany, however recent experience indicates they take the money and neither deliver nor refund, so def. do not order at vireo at the moment.
Yes, am finding that. Have had to resort to getting a third party (supposedly) compatible FP4 battery. I know it won’t be ethically sourced but my only alternative would be to buy a new phone. I’m not keen on trying to source something via eBay as I know it would be second hand and I wouldn’t know how much life I’d get out of it.
I’m unfortunately in a bit of pickle.
I bought from vireo thinking I’d get my new Fairphone 6 in a week. With others having issues (and not getting any responses to my emails) I’ve had to cancel my order.
But this now leaves me with an issue. Where do I go to actually BUY a fairphone that’ll actually deliver?
A simple google does show several sites that says they’ll sell me one, but after Vireo, I’m not talking any chances.
Has anyone here bought from a seller thats not Vireo? And if so, who?
