Fairphone's delivery/online shop is deeply suboptimal

With normal online shops, if you ask to ship to a different address to your billing address, it just works, and if you want to change the shipment address you can, even if it hasn’t shipped.

With the Fairphone shop, if you order something to be shipped to a different delivery from billing address, well, it told me it was doing that and then a day later sent me an email telling me it was sending the order to my billing address! But don’t worry, surely I can fix that, no, Fairphone’s worthless excuse for a shop won’t let you change the address even if the order hasn’t shipped yet, their “live chat” is only available four hours a day, they don’t appear to be available by phone and God only knows whether my email to support will get there in time.

Deeply unimpressed. Would not order again.

(This was a battery, because my existing battery has more or less died without notice, the phone now powering down without warning at 60% “full”, even though last week it was happy to get down to 10%. Second time it’s done this: last time, a battery replacement fixed it. This time, apparently, selling me a battery is beyond their competence.)

So “UPS My Choice” is meant to let you change this. Needless to say, their “My Choice Dashboard” provides no way whatsoever to do that, at least not yet. Maybe once the parcel is in motion it’ll let me change things – I’ll try tomorrow.

Nope! Looks like UPS My Choice only lets you redirect parcels if the seller allows it, which Fairphone has not. So my battery is in transit to a location I will not be present at, because Fairphone’s store and customer service is too poor to ship things where the customer asks them to.

The entire UPS experience is extremely subpar. I complained already several times to Fairphone about it, also asking to offer more options, i.e. providing different delivery services (even when that means paying more).

So far, to no avail, they seem to have their mind exclusively set on UPS.

Either way it should still be possible to change the delivery address via UPS though.

Naturally you have to register first and give all your personal data to UPS and all their affiliates. Then you have to link your parcel to your (new) account. Then you can rerouted it. However you won’t see any confirmation, i.e. no email, no tracking update, no notifications for quite some time… in some cases I even only got a confirmation right before they delivered it. Also I had to sign off any rights in case something goes wrong. Not sure if this was really necessary to change the delivery address but UPS kept pestering me about it so I did it. Essentially I waived any legal rights to complain whenever anything goes wrong by allowing UPS to deliver the parcel to whomever they meet at the given address without the need for any signature of the recipient.
